I imagine he might take the Brady approach. If I take less, show me how you're going to spend it to win, now.
I have liked the one year contracts to fill spots. Limits mistakes and brings some players playing hard for a contract.
Yeah. AA has a pretty good hit rate with the one year deals, too. Hamels is an exception but there were some odd circumstances for to injury, shortened season, etc. Could be a good move. This year's Dallas Keuchel.
Think about it - we won the division with one of the most patch-worked starting staffs ever. So any starter with a pulse that can go 5-6 will be a huge upgrade.
Charlie Morton signed 1 year $15M. Love this signing.
Rotation now looks very different. Can work soroka back in slowly. Nice mix of youth and experience. AA doing work.
Me too! When I saw him on the list of FA's I immediately hoped we'd make an effort to bring him back home, possibly to finish his career.
*For those who don't remember, the Braves drafted him out of high school in 2002 and developed him in our farm system for six years, then traded him to the Pirates (along with other prospects, for OF Nate McLouth). Cannot believe it was that long ago. Feels like yesterday.
Terrific pick-up. And his money doesn't effect Freddie's free-agency year (2022).
Need a bat to protect him still or he will never see a strike...
Ozuna is the only clear answer. Big bat, Big Engergy, and the young-ins' dig his leadership. Below are the only other FA OFs.
Depends on term and/or the DH being permanent in the NL. His defense is pretty bad and likely to get worse.
Yeah but his bat protecting FF is a great trade-off for subpar D. Plus, in the 8th or 9th, you can pull him and put Pache, etc. over there. However, I hear ya on the terms...he's gonna want 4, possibly 5 yrs. And he's no spring Chicken.
This is all about protecting FF in the 3 hole, imo, so you're right they might not pony up the $$$. My guess...they don't sign a FA OF and roll RJAjr in Right, Pache in CF, with Duvall, Kakes (brutal) platoons in LF hoping Waters is ready early summer.
GIDDY...
Agreed. Great news. I don't expect the Liberty Braves to sign Trevor Bauer, but we have to do at least this much to hang with the big boys.
Especially with the penny pinching Wilpons selling the Mets.
Let’s hope for the NL DH in the next 2 years. If so I like this signing a lot, otherwise I understand it and hope we don’t regret it too much at the end.
