More than happy to share any info.. PM or DN Post is A Okay for any questions you may have..
My career as a fisherwoman ended when I brought home some sunfish and tried to filet them following instructions in Joy of Cooking. I did have the joy of watching a fly fisherman spinning his magic on another occasion.
Saltwater is my favorite
Inshore
Speckled Trout and Reds in LA (limit is 25 trout per day)
Offshore
Gulf: Red Snapper, Grouper, Mahi, Cobia, and Amberjack (to catch)
Keys: Grouper, Yellowtail snapper, Cobia, Mahi, and Blackfin Tuna
Favorite All time Places Costa Rica and Bahamas
I caught an Amberjack once. It was like reeling in an anvil.
But a LOT easier to filet and along with a bit of salt, lime and cilantro, lots better off the grill!
Oh man, my best memory on that front was catching tuna on the Pacific side of Costa Rica, and the crew cleaned it and served it on the boat, uncooked, with a squeeze of lime. Out of this world.
Bucket list!
To everyone contributing, I will be traveling from Indiana to Tybee Island the end of this month. I will be making stops in Athens to bookend the trip. My 5 year old son would really like to go fishing. Can anyone recommend spots around the island, as well as Athens, that we could drop lines in the water. Doesn't have to be fancy or extravagant, just nice enough for us to have time together. Please and thank you.
I used this for my last trip to Tybee and caught a nice redfish off the Lazaretto Creek pier , unfortunately the weather was terrible the rest of the trip and I only fished for a couple of hours... https://www.riversendcampground.com/fishing-tybee-island/
Biggest A.J. I've caught.
Headed out from Marathon for a half day of fishing.......TODAY.
And the high will only reach 78 degrees. Hope we catch something......but am very OK if we don’t.
6 hours of fishing, snorkeling and kayaking......I realize it’s not real fishing......but what an awesome day nonetheless.
This will certainly be a Modelo day.
That is "reel" fishing in my book! Enjoy!
Not sure if you can still harvest conch in the keys, but if you can, I highly recommend. The closest I've come to the fresh tuna w/a lime story @AnotherDawg shared, was pulling up a queen conch, popping a hole in the top of the shell to release the conch's grip, cutting a slice, squeezing on some fresh key lime. Not tuna, a little tough, but magnificent!
Tight lines and Good times for all @texdawg
Just plain jealous!
Turned out to be a great day......loved the Keys.... flying back to the real world tomorrow.
