2021 Masters
Hi everyone! I tried commenting on a thread about the Masters that had already been started, but something was wonky. I figured we could start afresh. I know it’s just the first round, but I like seeing a Dawg at the top of the leaderboard!

Anyone but Patrick Reed I think is the consensus.
Agreed. I have a few great memories going to the Masters. I’d love to hear anyone else’s good stories!
My first (of probably 20-30) was in the mid 1950’s when I was 9 or 10. My dad, mom and me drove to Augusta on Sunday morning. Dad purchased 3 tickets (round cardboard disks with a piece of string to attach to your clothing) and we went in. Don’t remember who won or anything else. Have many fond memories of later tournaments. Don’t remember the year, (maybe 1987?) was watching when Larry Mize chipped in on #11 to beat Greg Norman on the second playoff hole. Fondest memory is the beauty of the place. Unparalleled.
Several years back (2012) got a Saturday evening call - two badges available for Sunday if I wanted ‘em. Asked my oldest daughter at the time (she was 10) if she wanted to get up and go watch golf. She was game, so I woke her up around 7:30, put her in the car and we were off. Told her we would leave whenever she wanted. She had never been to a golf match.
Walked in, crossed over #1, looked at the top of the hill and she saw Tiger. She was giddy. We settled over at #2, saw a guy make a double eagle, and saw a guy with a pink driver. She wanted to follow him.
She made it all day...
Got a great pic (off my HD TV) holding her up standing right beside the tee box at #10, first playoff hole with the guy with the pink driver pointing into the woods. He hit a good shot out of there, if I recall...
GREAT DAY.
So junior year at Georgia my roommate (who was from Augusta) called me from home and said “skip all your classes and come to the Masters with me today!” I tore out of Athens bedecked in Lilly Pulitzer. We sat on 16 and drank beer and ate pimento cheese sandwiches all day. Towards the end of the day Condoleeza Rice walks up and sits behind us. Great day!
Never got to go to the actual tournament but did go with my Dad and his boss who was a member and caddy for my Dad who had a 2 handicap and watch him shoot 69. Hopefully one day will get to go watch.
Went when JOSE Maria olazabal won in ‘93 with my cousin. We sat on 5 all day then walked around some. Parked in some persons front yard across the street for $20.
now there’s only one house left because everyone sold out. Times have changed. Being an augusta native it’s weird seeing all the changes around the course.
In 1997 I drove over on a Tuesday, bought a practice round ticket outside the gate and got in just to hear someone say Tiger and Mark Omeara had just finished up on 18. I really just wanted to see the course and walked around the second nine mostly. Saw Arnold Palmer sitting under the big oak tree waving to patrons.
Later in the day when most people had left I went over to see some of the first nine holes and there was Tiger on #3 playing with Larry Mize. Maybe 10 people were watching. So I followed them around holes 3-9 and stood right beside Tiger as he pulled his club on #6 and #7. He would go on to a record setting win that week. Such a fun memory!
My wife went on Monday in 2000 and said a patron was cutting up with Fuzzy Zoeller on Amen corner. Fuzzy actually handed the patron his club and the guy hit it on the 12th green!
Brian Harman , Go Dawgs!!! Hes in 2nd place.... -3
Loser in a Sea of Red!
And hanging with his new mommy!
Do we need a Patrick Reed dislike thread?
Maybe.
I just took a look at the leaderboard; if nobody falls off the truck it looks like all six Dawgs could make the cut!
@Canedawg2140 Absolutely WONDERFUL story! Loved it. I looked up the 2012 Masters on youtube and see you and your daughter in the foreground (is that you in red shirt and navy visor with daughter in light green shirt?). I got on TV once that way during the Monday finish of the Players Championship in 2000 featuring Tiger's charge against Hal "Be the right club TODAY" Sutton. Fun memories!
