Hey folks - as a member of the DawgNation community, please remember to abide by simple rules of civil engagement with other members:
- Please no inappropriate usernames (remember that there may be youngsters in the room)
- Personal attacks on other community members are unacceptable, practice the good manners your mama taught you when engaging with fellow Dawg fans
- Use common sense and respect personal differences in the community: sexual and other inappropriate language or imagery, political rants and belittling the opinions of others will get your posts deleted and result in warnings and/ or banning from the forum
- 3/17/19 UPDATE -- We've updated the permissions for our "Football" and "Commit to the G" recruiting message boards. We aim to be the best free board out there and that has not changed. We do now ask that all of you good people register as a member of our forum in order to see the sugar that is falling from our skies, so to speak.

I was a Freshman during the fall of 1980. It was not only an exciting year, it was a magical time in Athens.. from 1980-1984 the Dawgs played in two national title games & with a break or two, could have played in 2-3 more. Point is winning breeds winning & titles. Bama, Clemson, & even LSU, UF & Ohio State have proven that. If you need more evidence, just look at the fortunes of these teams after their most recent title: 98 Vols, 01 Canes, 04 Trojans, 05 Longhorns, 2010 Aburn Tigers. I've my waited 40 years for the next title suffering thru far too many mediocre seasons & unexplainable losses. It's time to totally support Smart in building a roster, the facilities and a campus that is second to none. Consistency will bring the titles.
My choice was NOT an option, but here it is: We want BOTH. We want multiple Nattys, and to be a consistant top contender year after year. Likewise, we want The Georgia BullDawgs football program to become the new Division #1 dynasty over the next several decades.
Go DAWGS!
We've been consistent for 20 years.... this is a pretty simple answer. The goal is the NATTY. It is for every "contender". Most contenders are pretty consistent. You may have cinderella stories here and there, but UGA has never been in that slipper. We are consistently just out of reach every year and it is extremely frustrating!!! haha But to get back on point, the Natty is more important. This is a no-brainer.
I was a year ahead of you, I was class of 1982. Those were exciting times in Athens Ga, in my biased opinion it was as good as it gets.
To answer the OP, I'll take a title and worry about consistency later. Without a title consistency means consistently falling short of our goals.
"Let’s face it, Smart was hired to do what Mark Richt couldn’t do after his first few seasons: win championships. And, with 1980 fading ever farther back into the mists of time, that needs to include a national championship."
Bill saved the best for last...that about sums it up.
Georgia has 5 NC.
cmacdawg
please enlighten me what years did they win recognized NC
Claimed national titles
2 (1942, 1980)
1942 and 1980
This isn't an either/or program. Win a championship and stay in the top 10 annually. We have all the resources and recruiting footprint to make it happen.
