Atlanta Hawks off-season thread..

We need a thread to discuss all things off-season. Free agency, the draft and possible trade options. I'll open the discussion by pointing out I read as fact Hawks management is planning to make a run at signing Kevin Durant instead of re-signing John Collins. If they could manage to pull it off they would be instant favorites to win it all next season. I think it's extremely unlikely it will happen though, it's at least 50% about media market now and another 20% about where a player wants to live.
You have the floor.

Not happening
Nik Claxton is a player that should be in somebody’s regular rotation. His advanced stats are very solid.
what's not happening? Making a run at KD or getting him to sign on the dotted line?
Probably not. The grand prize in free agency would be Kawhi Leonard though, he'd fit perfectly on this roster. That seems even less likely to happen though. He is a Southern Cal guy from childhood to college and when he got a chance to return as a pro he signed with The Clippers.
I'm not sure The Hawks could afford a spot for him given they have Capela and Okongwu who have similar strengths, but I'd welcome him if management finds an opening and cap room.
Both
Hawks are going to resign Collins no matter what. Question is will he be kept as a core player or used as a sign and trade piece. You'd have to get an amazing player to give up Collins in a trade.
I think they are already looking into Durant's receptiveness to an offer.
I'm already looking into my bank giving me $1M for free.
I can't see Durant going to Atlanta in any circumstance. I can't think of a time when the Hawks have ever been a free agent destination for the best of the best.
JC turned down 90 million to re-up last Dec. I think what he's asking would be north of 25 million per year. I'm not sure he's worth making that kind of offer without feeling out the free agent market first. The question I'm asking is should the organization tie up 50% of it's payroll in just Collins and Trae for 5 or more years ?
The Hawks aren't looking to get something for nothing. I agree it's at best a long shot that a top 10 player will seriously consider coming to Atlanta though. Durant could have stayed in Oklahoma City and even more the case Leonard could have stayed in Toronto if basketball was their only concern.
