Whoops
We WERE cursed!!
Don’t forget though that at the time the 1994 Strike began???? The Montreal Expos we’re running away with the division lead. Atlanta trailed, they trailed badly. 1994 cost all of baseball. The season was left abandoned, and incomplete. MLB fans everywhere were robbed. However, the city of Montreal had to pay a price much more than it cost ATLANTA. One year later? Atlanta won it all. 1995 Atlanta World Series Champions. But Montreal? They were moved out of the city of Montreal. They lost the team to Washington, D.C. Today, they are known as the Washington Nationals.
Sounds like the Flames minus the strike. That was a major heartache!
I mean, Matzek was out of baseball, working in a hotel, for chrissakes!
Just an example of these Braves coming together, management making moves, recovering from injuries, overcoming other season ending injuries and just laying it all on the line to give this City of Atlanta what it has needed for a very long time! So happy for everyone involved with the Braves organization for getting this done!
I just bet Ted Turner has a great big smile on his face!
"NOVEMBER 2, 2021" WILL NOT be carved into the Mt. Rushmore of crushing losses in Georgia sports history!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As far as crushing losses? I am pretty old. Here are two additional killer losses from earlier days (late 70s, early 80s) that perhaps some of the younger folks might not also be aware of:
January 1, 1977 - Georgia got freaking CRUSHED by RB Tony Dorsett, and the Pitt Panthers in the Sugar Bowl 27-3.
January 4, 1981 - The NFC #1 seed Atlanta Falcons (12-4) were defeated in Fulton County Stadium by the Wild Card team - the Dallas Cowboys 30-27
November 16, 2013 - Lately? The one that absolutely KILLS ME the most is "the Prayer at Jordan-Hare" from the 2013 season in the Deep South's oldest rivalry. Georgia lost that night to Auburn 43-38 on a 4th down, and 18 yards to go, with a 73 yard MIRACLE TD pass that bounced off of TWO different Georgia DB's, before it fell out of the sky into the Auburn WR's hands. The WR didn't even see the ball AT ALL until it was in his HANDS!!!! Seeing that replay sickens me every single time that I see it. It is EVERYWHERE on the internet.
AMEN!!! AMEN!!! and??? AMEN!!!! I am also old enough to remember VICTORY with Georgia as Herschel was completely tearing through the Notre Dame defense for 166 yards, and two TD's with a dislocated shoulder!!! I was 17 at the time of the January 1, 1981 Sugar Bowl UGA WIN!!!
Thanks (sarcasm!!!!) The remembering of those soul crushing plays knocks the breath out of me now, just like they did then!
YES!!! and those memories allow me to breath once again! Thanks!! (no sarcasm)
@trueping PAYBACK IS WHAT HELPS ME!!! Actually it makes every single victory SO MUCH SWEETER RIGHT NOW, and I have a heart MADE OUT of STEEL when it comes to FREAKING Auburn, SORRY A$$ Florida, etc, etc.....
Yeah. The Expos were pretty dang stout.
AMEN!!! AMEN!!! and??? AMEN!!!!
Oh, by the way....... GOOOOOOO DAWGS!!!!!!
GO DAWGS!!!!
Yes, the Expos were playing well and ahead of the Braves. 6 games back with 50 games to go. Even if Expos won the division the Braves were still leading the wild card standings. You don't need to be the #1 seed just need to get in the playoffs, as this year's Braves team proved.
