Hey folks - as a member of the DawgNation community, please remember to abide by simple rules of civil engagement with other members:
- Please no inappropriate usernames (remember that there may be youngsters in the room)
- Personal attacks on other community members are unacceptable, practice the good manners your mama taught you when engaging with fellow Dawg fans
- Use common sense and respect personal differences in the community: sexual and other inappropriate language or imagery, political rants and belittling the opinions of others will get your posts deleted and result in warnings and/ or banning from the forum
- 3/17/19 UPDATE -- We've updated the permissions for our "Football" and "Commit to the G" recruiting message boards. We aim to be the best free board out there and that has not changed. We do now ask that all of you good people register as a member of our forum in order to see the sugar that is falling from our skies, so to speak.

aspect of this hire not talked about enough…
we already got our coach. Florida, scjr, LSU, and Mizzou all have to find one. There’s only so many big names to go around.
also if basketball season is silly like football season, many of these established coaches will be getting themselves huge raises.
if Mike white does in Athens what he did in Gainesville I’ll be happy. I just want a reason to watch college basketball.
If he can recruit Atlanta consistently like some say with the help of Jonas we will be much better. Mark fox couldn’t do it and Crean couldn’t do it (for whatever reasons). They both had the benefit of a bluebird in KCP and Ant man but absolutely 0 consistency in building depth with 2-3 studs a year from the state. That’s a must have I don’t care who the coach is. You won’t win consistently without the players.
Same here, sir!
Agreed, can't win without the jimmys and joes. Also, has to shore up the transfer portal and better roster manage along with the recruiting.
Fun moment today from the introduction where Coach White said his kids were asking what they should do with their Gators gear. Someone from the stands shouted, “Burn it.” That would make for an easy way to get DawgNation behind you.
Start a bonfire and “We could all dance around it like wild injuns!”
"Recruit Atlanta."
Hey, everyone recruits Atlanta, UGA inclluded.
It comes down to paying for the best players.
There's an NIL fund fans can donate to.
UF fans are basically the same regarding their football and basketball history. Before SOS came along they had never sustainably won anything. Of course, giving the devil his due, they did while he was there. Then they swung and missed with Zook, got very fortunate with the Myer hire, but have since swung and missed again 3x in a row, with the jury still out regarding Napier. Meanwhile, they act entitled as to still belonging among the elite. Yet, save for only two hires, they’ve been second tier at best their ENTIRE football program history. As often been said, Gator fans think CFB didn’t technically start until the early 90’s.
So, now we’re just seeing the same thing with their basketball program.
This taken from Billy Donovan's Wikipedia page:
"In 18 years at Florida, Donovan led the Gators to 14 NCAA Tournament appearances, six SEC regular season titles (four outright, two shared) and four SEC Tournament titles. By comparison, the Gators had only made three "official" NCAA Tournament appearances (not counting two under Sloan which were vacated), one regular season conference title, and no tournament titles in their entire history before Donovan's arrival."
In comparison, prior to Donovan’s arrival in 96, UGA actually had the better basketball history record than UF:
Five tournament appearances with one Final Four, an additional Sweet 16, and a Group of 32.
In addition, UGA had won 3 regular season SEC championships and 2 conf tournament championships.
The point being is that once again, UF made, in this case basketball, ONE SINGLE successful hire that turned out obviously very well for them, and now they think they’re gawds’ gift to basketball, just as they still do in football.
So, I’m in the camp of loving this hire for a few reasons, 1) it’s very reasonable to expect White to improve our program 2) as has been pointed out, there’s a good chance UF ain’t gonna find any better HC, and 3) it will just add extra sweetness for our improved basketball program to literally beat and surpass theirs with their rejected coach, who’s gonna be motivated and enjoy whupping them as much as Kirby does, but for different reasons.
Great post.
also…I’m sure Mike White will have a little something extra for fu whenever we play them.
They also won those two national championships under Donovan with an absurd amount of NBA talented players. they had 3 top 9 picks in (Horford, Noah, and Brewer) and like 5 more players that would make the NBA
Maybe a big "fu" !!
A big FU is always called for when discussing anything to do with the Gators. Every time no exceptions!
truly!
Welp. There goes Coach Hayes to GA ST. Makes sense he doesn’t want to come back again as an assistant. He’s just gonna wait it out in ATL
Once he got Xavier on any sort of run it was a foregone conclusion. Good for him. Maybe a bigger program will poach Mike White and then we can bring him home.
