it would have been 6 years 156 million at most. Everyone including Freddie knew he wasn't getting 180. you keep bringing up 39 as if the Braves weren't prepared to throw a ton of money at him at age 38. Is the new performance cliff between those ages? Braves are giving more total money and only 5 million less per year to a different guy who won't be that much younger than Freddie by the time the contract ends. I don't think it's about money at this point. AA was tired of waiting and Freddie was being hesitant, so he got a top tier replacement. It was the best move honestly just sucks to see Freddie go
I think you are onto something with AA tired of waiting, and most importantly not wanting to be left at the altar without Freddie and Olson potentially traded to another team.
I also think you are underestimating the value of $5 million/year extra the Braves are saving. $5 million to spend elsewhere is quite valuable, that's the value of the solid relief pitcher they signed yesterday. Also, Olson is 5 years younger and hitters generally drop off at age 35. I also don't think you've looked at how good Olson is.
Hitter A 2021: .300 BA, 31 HRs, .503 slugging, 83 RBIs, 85 BB, 4.7 WAR
Hitter B 2021: .271 BA, 39 HRs, .511 slugging, 111 RBIs, 88 BB, 5.8 WAR
One of these is 5 years younger, $5 million cheaper, and most importantly was willing to sign on the dotted line to be a Brave.
This is all I needed to know.
Now we're talking!!!
Oh yeah Olson is good. I just like Freddie and wanted to be with the braves
Based on what I heard as well, Chelsea really wanted to go to SoCal.
"Happy wife, happy life."
I've still haven't figured out what rhymes with happy husband...
Go Braves!
Not being a husband
Happy wife.....
Rosario re-signed! 2 year 18 million
a steal
Yesssirr!!! Love it when a play comes together. All they need now is that veteran pitcher to sign...!
Rosario is another great deal. AA does it again. AA is going to be an MLB legend before he retires.
I think the staff is largely a wait see how everyone looks kind of thing, then fill the gaps. Ynoa and Soroka both could come back strong and make the Starting 5 elite. Or just one makes things very strong.
Happy wife, happy life.
Happy Husband is only a legend...
