Is this the official position of DawgNation?
the latter.
That's cool. I was hoping you would come on here and clarify. I understand how sometimes interviews can be taken out of context and manipulated in ways not intended, especially in headlines.
@pgjackson
Better to listen to the interview before judging and posting a thread on it. I don't control where the threads go or any of that stuff. Just like I don't control what I get asked on interviews -- and I do a lot.
Atlanta, Athens, Birmingham, Nashville every week and SEC Network TV, Jacksonville, Mobile and Knoxville every week in season.
People ask my opinions, not just on UGA, but across the SEC. Doing this 30 years and covering 5 major programs provides some perspective and plenty of sources.
The truth is not always what people want to hear, and sometimes people don't like opinions or predictions.
But all I can do is shoot straight and share my perspective.
We all need to spend more time on the Florida Hate Zone...
Lmao I don't work for DN or Cox media
Like I said
Clickbait
@MikeGriffith you have always owned what you have written and stated. People got suc ked in from a pay to post site (247 aka CBS) from a CBS owned ATL radio station, and then call it "National News".....I certainly got a good laugh from it "offically"
@MikeGriffith you just do you. Even when I don't agree with you, I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt. IMHO you've earned it. I think by and large all the folks at Dawgnation do a fine job. Just wanted to get that out before the Dawg days and waiting for summer camp drive me as crazy as it will most of us.
I agree. All of your hard work is greatly appreciated. As is the hard work of every member of the Dawgnation staff.
Also, I applaud you for interacting personally with fans on this forum. We might not always agree, but your perspective on all things related to the Dawgs and CFB in general is respected and valued.
All things won’t be equal between Stet and the backups though. They’ll have to outperform him handily to take the job. As Stet has a lot of something they don’t have… experience. Experience is arguably the greatest thing to have at the QB spot. So, the backups need to be the next Trevor Lawrence to take the job, or Stet has to become a turnover machine.
Does Bama sit Bryce if a freshman or sophomore is equally talented? You know, since he won’t be back. I think the answer to this question solves your “simple concept” idea.
That is so very true, my friend!
If I would do anything different with the Georgia quarterbacks this year. It would be to give the backups more playing time in any game Georgia is up by more than 21 in the second half. This is particularity true in the Samford, Kent State, Vanderbilt and Georgia Tech games. I say this because there is going to be a new quarterback next year. It is going to be important that they have some game experience against players and coaches they do not practice against all week.
We all need to remember that the only quarterback to start every game in a season for Kirby is Jake Fromm. I think that part of what was wrong with Jake in 2019 was the backup quarterback situation.
100 percent agree with you!!
Ummm… 2019 had an OC problem… if I recall…
After all the QB stuff last year, when CKS stayed with SB through thick and thin and it worked perfectly, I cannot imagine any of our talented underclassmen QBs taking the job away based merely on good practices. In my mind the only way SB loses the starter role is if he gets seriously injured or if his game performance seriously falters in more than 1 game. I do agree with the sentiment of giving the other QBs reps in the 2nd half of games with large leads to set things up better for next year.
They did, but I think his point was, and I agree, that Fromm's backups in 2019 were very limited and that is why Fromm's play was limited as well. For example, he couldn't be allowed to pull the ball and run (as he had done so effectively in 2017 and 2018) , even though it was there many times, because if he got hurt, UGA was in a world of trouble.
Fromm's other problem was that he didn't stay another year.
Nobody...and I mean NOBODY....ran the bootleg was well as Fromm. Dude could sell the fake handoff like nobody's business and be 10 yards downfield before anyone knew what was happening, including the cameraman.
Oh, I totally agree!! In 2017 and 2018, he was a tremendous running threat .
Just in 2019, he didn't run it as often, I think, because of the fear that if he got tackled and hurt as a result, we had no experienced QB to come in for him. I remember catching myself yelling at the TV saying "Just pull the darn ball out and run it" and then remembering there was a "team-first" coaching decision not to run it.
Our offense was definitely hampered as a result. But that was not on Fromm at all but just the circumstances of our personnel.
While I think the OC was not great in 2019. Georgia's two big problems were lack of depth at quarterback. They had freshman D'Wan Mathis and red shirt sophomore Stetson Bennett. Georgia also had a great lack at receiver. They had Matt Landers, Kearis Jackson hurt, Lawrence Cager hurt, Tommy Bush hurt, Dominick Blaylock freshman, Makiya Tongue never played, George Pickens freshman, Demetris Robertson hurt, Tyler Simmons hurt and Trey Blount. who was Jake going to through to? I remember the pass in the SEC championship game that bounced of off Tyler Simmons chest he was playing with one arm. Then Dominick Blaylock went down with a ACL.
This is the same writer that thinks USC is playing against the best now that they are in the Big 10.
SMH. He probably gets paid for writing stuff like this.
