Washington was the last PAC 12 team in the CFP in 2016, Mike. And UNC is currently 15, not in the Top 10.

Pull for THE? I don't think so.

    Excellent post.

The committee just makes up out of thin air variable and forever changing rules as they go along, rules which actually amount to rationalization of their supreme subjectivity.

As long as we keep winning the committee is irrelevant.

    Go, Dawgs!

It's a shame running up the score has become a prerequisite for getting votes in the rankings. Yeah, Spurrier did it, and he was an ass. At least with the NFL, a team's advancement is based solely on their won-loss record.

The commentators gushed all day Saturday about how Tennessee was back in form. The old hysteria was again present about how great they were. No one mentioned the poor quality of the team they were playing. SMH

    @SmartsTheMan

"Then came the decision on who's No.2. The choice would clearly be Georgia, because they had a better resume than Ohio St."

The idea that UGA "clearly" had a better resume than Ohio State was only in the minds of Georgia fans. Everyone else knew that until UGA played Tennessee, their only ranked opponent was Oregon, and their only opponents that so much as had a shot at reaching 8 wins were Oregon and Florida. Ohio State had played a Notre Dame team that would easily beat Florida and a Penn State team that has the same record as Oregon against a tougher schedule.

But hey, these same UGA fans thought that UGA deserved a trip to the playoff in 2018 despite 2 losses, no conference title, their best win coming against 3 loss Florida plus having a bad 3 TD loss to LSU solely because of "almost beating" Alabama. Kirby Smart claiming "the criteria changes every year" was disingenous ... no team had ever made the playoff based solely on "almost beating" the previous year's champion. Who, by the way, turned out to be nowhere near the best team in the country because they were thrashed by Clemson, rendering UGA's "we deserve to make the playoff too because we almost beat Alabama!" even more ridiculous.

And the same ones who thought UGA deserved a trip to the 2007 title game despite losing at home to a South Carolina team that didn't win enough games to be bowl eligible, a 3 TD loss to Tennessee, and not even making the SEC title game. UGA fans who try to draw parallels to Alabama in 2012 ignore that Alabama did not leapfrog the SEC West and SEC champions as UGA would have had to. They only leapfrogged Oklahoma State, who played no top 15 teams before the bowl game and didn't even lobby the pollsters for the spot because they preferred winning a bowl game to finish 12-1 with a #2 ranking to getting massacred in the title game and falling out of the top 5.

I thought UGA's winning a title would finally end these self-serving arguments that they would never accept from another fan base - like you would accept Ole Miss in the playoff last year based on their shootout against Bama - but it looks like you guys need to win a couple more before you finally develop a championship mindset.

I about laughed when the commentator in the Georgia said "If LSU beats Georgia and is the SEC Champ, certainly they would get into the Playoffs". Yeah, man, sure. The Committee HAS been pretty consistent in the fact that the Conference Championship game is just a game - the winner adds no value to their resume. I still believe that Tenn will make the Top 4 without even getting to the SEC game and Georgia could lose and definitely still go. That's all been done before.

The one constant seems to be at keeping Ohio State at #2 which is ****. Oh sure they beat Notre Dame (by 11 points) who was ranked #5 at the time... and is now 20th. Yeah, they beat Penn State (by 13 points)... who has played nobody and started off the year with that monster win of 4 points against Purdue and also had a 10 point win against 1-9 Northwestern.

Michigan plays the same level of opponents. Oh, but they are playing a ranked Illinois next week.. who lost to Purdue, Michigan State and Indiana. Yeah, they won't be ranked at the end of the year.

Does Tenn deserve to be there above Ohio State and Michigan? Probably. Tenn would've beat the teams Michigan and Ohio State by far more points if they had their schedule. That being said, I stand behind my fear that we will play them again and lose this time.

"NC is Top 10 on my ballot" - MG. So the question becomes "who would you rather play?" OSU or TN? It would not surprise me to see #1 UGA vs #4 TN. The committee making UGA beat TN and OSU to win the championship.

Here's what I know from purely looking at the scoreboards.

#2 Ohio State - Unproven. "Marquee" wins against #20 Notre Dame (see below), (5-5) Michigan State (see below), and #14 Penn State (see below)

#3 Michigan - Unproven. See #2 Ohio State. Penn State is the best of a MUCH lower level of competition.

#4 TCU - Better Resume than #2 or #3. Wins against (5-5) Oklahoma, (6-4) Kansas, (7-3) Oklahoma State. #19 Kansas State and #18 Texas. Oklahoma, Kansas and Oklahoma State were all ranked prior to start of season.

#14 Penn State - Big losses to Michigan and Ohio State. Wins against lower level opponents. 4 pt win against Purdue, solid win against Auburn, 10 pt win against (1-9) Northwestern.

#20 Notre Dame - #5 to start off the year and yes, had a win against Clemson, BUT not only lost to Ohio State, but Marshall (who has lost to teams like Troy and Bowlin Green) and to Stanford who is 3-7. Stanford's other 2 wins were against Colgate and a 1 pt win against Arizona State. Notre Dame just beat Navy (3-7) by a whopping 3 points.

UNR Michigan State - Big Name that's is not relevant right now. 5-5. Losses to Washington, Minnesota, Maryland, Ohio State, Michigan. Best win was against an Illinois team with wins against low level opponents.

You're going to probably have at least one 1-loss team that is deserving of being in a playoff that will not make it in.

What if you have a one loss Tennessee team and a one loss TCU team.....who makes it in?

Which makes it in - a one loss Michigan team or a one loss Ohio State team? Do both make it in?

And, God forbid, what if a two-loss LSU team knocks off the Dawgs in the SEC Championship - are they to be even considered in the Top 4?

Like @SmartsTheMan said...which criteria will they use in December to decide? That appears to be a moving target.

This is a quote from the CFP Selection Committee chairman Boo Corrigan, the athletic director at NC State, cited "the explosive nature of their offense" as the reason Ohio State slotted at No. 2 ahead of Georgia.

CFP Selection Committee chairman Boo Corrigan's statement clearly didn't show that the committee thought Ohio St had a better resume than Georgia. Otherwise, he would've said so.

Ohio St hasn't played a team who's capable of challenging for a National Championship - outside of when they play an SEC team in the postseason in decades. There was no rational reason for why Ohio St deserved to be ranked over Georgia.

"The explosive nature of their offense." Let's just rank Tennessee No.1 and be done with it.

That was complete political Bias. If Michigan beats OS in a close game and it comes down to 11-1 Tennessee or 11-1 Ohio St, I wonder what the reasoning will be then? Especially considering UT scores more points than their media darling.

I believe these four teams will win out and will represent the four seeds in the college football playoffs: Georgia #1, TOS #2, Tennessee #3, TCU #4. Tennessee jumps TCU via strength of schedule and to set up the western game in Arizona between UGA and TCU. The eastern game in Atlanta will be Tennessee and TOS. Georgia and Tennessee will meet in LA for the NC. Georgia will reach its goal of : "Two in Twenty Two".

Arkansas could of should of beat LSU Saturday, they were playing with backup QB's. They sacked the QB 6 times or more. They just didn't have anyone who could disperse the ball. It was a bad look win for LSU when you know all the facts.

Don’t be surprised to see USC move into the top four if they win out.
