I agree that Williams is probably in the lead right now. He plays Friday, and the game could be critical for his chances. My guess is that Kirby won't give a moment's attention to the game plan wrt the Heisman, but I suspect Riley will. He probably figures that if his QB wins the Heisman and he gets into the playoffs he has had a fabulous year one. It helps recruiting and he can point to his success in developing QBs to win the top trophy.
Of course, stats are subjective in a sense. Someone has to choose the stats that are used. Will they use traditional stats? New age stats? Advanced stats? Stats against P5 teams? Stats against all teams? Lifetime stats? Seasonal stats? Stats in the early part of the season? The last part of the season? the whole season only?
Which stats will count the most? The least? How much more or less? Does team success factor into the equation?
Add also, for QB, the style of offense his team runs, the quality of his receiving room, etc., etc. Same for all positions.
Whatever standard you use, at the end of the day, the votes will be subjective. 🤷🏻♂️
Edit: Should never have started giving the award to lower classmen. Herschel was clearly the very best player in college football in1980, but he had to wait and put together a body of work. I have no problem with that.
I think the "quality" of receivers is greatly overstated. W.Ky, G.So, UNC, and Houston are 4 of the top 5 passing teams in the nation. Do they have better receivers than UGA? Style of offense is the biggest factor.
I guess this isn’t good enough for a Heisman.
2021
Not dissing our receivers, but, over the last two years, they have has issues gaining separation. AD could do it, but he has been out. Arian can stretch the field, but his catching technique needs work—which led to several dropped long TD passes.
That is scheme. Don't you think that any one of our receivers would be starting at GaSo or WKy or UNC and putting up big numbers? The top 3 receivers in the nation are all from Go5 schools. Nathaniel Dell at Houston was a 2-star out of HS and now #2 in the nation in receiving. Rashee Rice at SMU was a low 3-star and leads the nation in receiving yards. Those two teams throw a lot. I'm not sure those guys are any better than the guys we have. How would they fare in our offense? I think if you put Rosmy or Jackson or Ladd on those teams they would also have huge numbers.
I shouldn't be but I am surprised every year by the # of WR I've not heard of who make it onto NFL squads and do well. But then, I'm not a scout, so...Smaller schools are well represented there.
I think you are doing a comparison of apples to oranges. The better comparision is to WRs on teams like UTjr or the OSU who regularly play against the top teams in the sport. The separation issue has been commented upon by numerous knowledgeable sources, including Georgia’s own Aaron Murray.
New day. New vote.
I vote for this just like I vote in real elections…
Once a day.
That Hooker is gaining traction.
Vols finally figured out the innernets...
