Hey folks - as a member of the DawgNation community, please remember to abide by simple rules of civil engagement with other members:
- Please no inappropriate usernames (remember that there may be youngsters in the room)
- Personal attacks on other community members are unacceptable, practice the good manners your mama taught you when engaging with fellow Dawg fans
- Use common sense and respect personal differences in the community: sexual and other inappropriate language or imagery, political rants and belittling the opinions of others will get your posts deleted and result in warnings and/ or banning from the forum
- 3/17/19 UPDATE -- We've updated the permissions for our "Football" and "Commit to the G" recruiting message boards. We aim to be the best free board out there and that has not changed. We do now ask that all of you good people register as a member of our forum in order to see the sugar that is falling from our skies, so to speak.

PG, you mentioned that story a few months back and it just amazes me how you got through it. Did anyone come down with the flu or pneumonia?
The temp got up to a balmy 23 degrees after starting out at 0 this morning. I haven't left the confines of the house since Thursday and probably won't go outside until Monday. We did have 1 rolling blackout this morning around 10. Just for 15 minutes, but the EMC did post on Facebook that were going to conducting them throughout the region. At least we had a heads up this time.
Afternoon sun is bright and helps warm the house through our windows and sliding glass doors on the backside of the house. Maintaining 71 degrees and the furnace hasn't kicked on in the last hour or so.
Stay safe and warm DawgNation! Have a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!!
No, but we lost about 40% of the class due to injuries. Lots of slip and falls off of wet/slippery obstacles. The key to making it through was to just s.uck it up and plow through. Unless you were seriously injured, you didn't report anything. The goal was to just survive. My biggest injuries during OCS were a broken finger and some kind of knee infection that made my knee blow up like a grapefruit for a couple of days. I tried to cover it up as long as I could by my DI saw it one day and chewed me out like crazy. The cold was just something that never went away and everyone was in the same boat.
I think the number is around 12-15 now in my neighborhood. Supposed to be even colder tonight.
@Loranwhaddayagot - prayers, along with figurative AND literal WARM wishes headed your way for speedy recoveries on all fronts!
@GradyDawg85 - Many thanks for the well wishes and backatcha! I’ve got both furnaces working and my wife is working on supper (of course, I’ll have to eat it in quarantine in our bedroom). I just realized, I can’t make Christmas cookies with our 3 girls….that stinks! I’ve done that every Christmas Eve as long as I can remember.
My wife went to Home Depot and got some rock salt / ice melter and I built a mound up where the condensate drains come out and it’s been working well. The idea is to keep that water from freezing from the ground back up to the PVC vent.
At least I don’t have any fever, but I don’t think I’ve ever had stopped up congestion as bad as this.
Earlier in the week, I perfected my impersonation of Sheriff Buford T. Justice and the “Hold up on ‘at car wash, gentlemen…” scene.
Today, with my congestion, I realized I sound like Optimus Prime. Wish I could keep this voice!
I guess we’ll see who I sound like tomorrow…
Merry Christmas everyone!
We barely hit 20 today but are fairly well situated for the cold. The power only blipped a time or so with the 50-60 mph gusts yesterday. Just think, we'll be stoked for the Peach Bowl this time next week ;)
Here is Jacksonville, we moved to this Mediterranea revival home back in April. Did great over the summer highest power bill $120. Last couple of days the heat pump is running nonstop and the warmest it has gotten inside is 69. Not used to these above grade homes.
Heat pumps have come a long way, but not effective for actual freezing weather. I remember my 1st heat pump in early 80 s Morrow, GA. At Temps in mid 40s it ran continuously. Thankfully I kept gas furnace in house and never used heat function unless it was 50+.
