The Hatchet Wielding Hitchhiker...boring....
Just watched The Hatchet Wielding Hitchhiker on Netflix. It got great reviews and kind of seemed interesting. Not! It's basically a 2 hour Dateline show. No spoilers, but it was very disappointing. Not worth the time.

Good to know. Almost watched it last night. Glad I didn’t now
Homeless ("homefree" as he calls it) California stoner dude saves the day, becomes a Youtube sensation, three months later he's in prison for murder. The moral of the story is that the media will exploit anyone to make a buck.
If you want to watch some riveting tv, checkout the documentary called 'Madoff'. It's a 4 part series, which I believe is on Netflix. I binge watched the whole thing in one night. Couldn't stop watching it. As someone who works in the financial services sector and just took a course last week in financial fraud, it's stunning to me that JP Morgan ignored what Bernie was doing. A single SARs report would have uncovered unusual and fraudulent activity in Madoff's account. JP Morgan ended up paying a $1.2B fine, but that wasn't enough. Some people should have gone to jail.
that was a good one. We binged it too. The SEC had him too and just didn’t follow thru and they ignored many trying to be the whistleblower. Still hard to fathom that he had 48 billion under mgmt and it was all a Ponzi scheme
Correct, the SEC had an iron clad case handed to them on a silver platter by the mathematician from Rampart Financial, who figured out it was a Ponzi scheme in about 5 minutes. The documentarians tried to lay the blame on Reagan for reducing the size of government, but that dog just didn't hunt. It was SEC managerial incompetence that was the culprit, along with JP Morgan looking the other way.
I recently watched Madoff, myself. It was interesting to get better information (not complete) as to how it all unfolded. A series of small events breaking just the right way over the course of decades allowed it to happen—plus emergency backing from some dishonest clients when needed. He also had a successful market making business that gave him credibility. I found it particularly interesting that the moment which appeared to start the entire chain of events was when he borrowed $30k from his father-in-law early on in order to make his investment managment clients whole after a market dip. He could not bring himself to tell them he had lost their money. This resulted in a large influx of clients because everyone else in the market had lost big—that appears to be when the light bulb went on…so to speak.
" The Hatchet Wielding Hitchhiker"
Honestly PG, if its bloody murder I'm in need of I'll just re-watch the TCU game.
OK, I needed a laugh. Thanks!
Thanks for the rec! But word of warning, be leery of these Netflix documentaries. They can put a lot of spin on them sometimes. This one might of been 100% accurate. Dunno. I just know you can't always take them completely at their word.
I know, it’s like they want to make something entertaining as well. All documentaries are pointed toward those making them. They’re telling a story, even if it’s based on a true story.
Next you’ll tell me that nature documentaries splice different shots together to fabricate a compelling narrative instead of actually following one animal around
edit: lmao must have made someone realize nature docs aren’t completely truthful
You didn't already know that?
100% agree. They always inject or attempt to weave a political angle into the story when it suits their agenda.
@YaleDawg Netflix even injects politics are nature documentaries. "Climate change, climate change and more climate change." It's the cause of everything. 🙄
That’s not political
