Well, the Braves got swept by the Marlins ..... but just the third such sweep this season by an opposing team.
The Braves, on the other hand, have swept opposing teams 12 times this year!
Remarkable!!
The magic number for the Braves to get home field advantage for the entire playoffs is currently 9 (which is a combination of Braves wins and Dodgers losses) with 13 games to play!
Hey, congrats on your recent upvote badge!
Looking good tonight.
7-0 and Strider is dealing.
Acuna is the man! He is one homer away from being a 40-60+ player…..the only one on MLB history!
And he hit his 100th RBI as a lead off batter!
Unheard of, hands down MVP season!!
Go Braves!
They were floating Mookie Betts. But no way he has it won now. Should get that 40th homer shortly.
He is flashy and show boats. I wouldn't play that way. But he also plays hard and plays to win. That much is obvious and all you can ask for.
The team won the WS in 2021. But Acuna was hurt and didn't play down the stretch. 2022 they come up short but if they beat the Phillies I think they beat the Padres in the NLCS. Then it's a rematch of 2021 with the Astros. Braves would have had a good chance.
I think Acuna wants to show he can be produce a title. After all the team won without him.
I used to think of it as showboating too. Now, it seems just regular behavior in the whole game of baseball, not just # 13. The more I think of it, it's just like an end zone celebration. He's done something that deserves to be celebrated so why not celebrate it?
Was watching an old interview by Bob Costas with Bob Gibson on YouTube. They discussed Babe Ruth "calling" his home run shot while at the plate. Costas asked Gibson how he would react, if he was on the mound. "I would put the next pitch right in his ear!," he replied. Money, safety, common sense and Ronald Acuna vs the Miami Marlins finally put to rest the idea of the baseball as a physical weapon.
Thankfully, the game has adopted "Let the boys (and girls) play." Sports, at all levels, have become far more popular with far less villans.
I am still old school, and just an old man. In playoffs, I believe we will still see a couple of plays where showboating will cost a team a game. A player standing at home plate on what he thought was a home run that he turns a double into a single, then fails to score but would have had he been on second.
its already happened to Ozuna ( and maybe Acuna) once this year already....
Curious what Braves will do with Grissom, seems they do not trust him to play infield at MLB level. Still playing infield at Gwinnett. One would think if he has a future with Braves it would be as an outfielder, but maybe he has not shown enough power.
My opinion he will be traded this off season.
They wanted him to succeed at SS this year I think. But he just wasn't cutting it. Arcia was always the backup plan and he has had a great year.
So yeah either he turns it around fast or he will be gone soon.
Perhaps. I like his bat. I think his power will pickup as he gets older/stronger. He can hit the ball. Hate to see us lose him but where to play him is a problem. That is a million dollar + infield and all pretty young. No spots likely to open in the near future. Might be best for him and his career and maybe the Bravos could get a decent reliever for him?
I would have thought when sent down this year he would have been moved to outfield as infield is set and traded for Lopez as backup infielder. Doesn't look like Braves see him in their future.
That is an amazing piece of trivia and an amazing post!
Many thumbs up!
