Expect MWilliams to get more snaps at DE than OLB. There is much more depth and potential at OLB than at DE. IF MWilliams isn't playing DE who is? Oft-injured TID? Or 17 year old freshman JJA? Another freshman?

UGA needs a huge year from MWilliams AT DE. There are 3 ready to break out, highly ranked options at OLB in DWilsom Mpemba and GHarris in addition to steady CChambliss. Each is probably a better fit at OLB than the bigger less mobile MWilliams.

Look for Mykel more in the Nolan Smith spot instead of the Travon Walker role.

I don't see it for the reasons I mentioned. NSmith was 6'2" and 235 lb. No way he could play 3-4 DE. He had to play OLB. MWilliams is much closer to TWalker's size, MWilliams also has more of a 4-3 DE skillset. Agility wise he's not an OLB in space. When he does play "OLB" he will be rushing the QB 90% of the time. I see him as being needed more at DE by this D.

One thing we've learned from CKS is he plays players where UGA needs them not necessarily where their best fit is in the NFL.

well, they pretty much played him at OLB the whole game against FSU. He also mentioned he wanted to stay there or else he might have a bit of a wandering eye.

But we can revisit during the season since you’re so self-assured.

We may be arguing semantics. What you may be calling an "OLB" I am calling a 4-3 DE. In the spring game MWilliams played with his hand in the dirt on 90% of the plays. The majority was in that 4-3 alignment. To me that is a DE. Williams also played quite a bit of 3-4 RDE where he plays more like a DT. He also played some LDE in addition to RDE. All in a 3pt stance.

He only seemed to stand up in a 2 pt stance i.e. "OLB" on a handful of plays. From that position he dropped into coverage once. From his lineman position he was a force at the line of scrimmage and in the backfield. In the spring game he batted 2 passes at the LOS and had numerous tackles at the LOS.

On a team that has struggled to get pressure on the QB in '23 is it wise to take your best pass rusher and stand him up at OLB where he has coverage responsibilities as much or more than pass rush responsibilities?

I see UGA playing more 4-3 with MWilliams as a 4-3, hand in dirt DE passrushing his *** off every chance he gets. I do remember NSmith and AOjilari rushing from that RDE position. I remember them struggling because of their size vs OT's. They looked small in a 3 pt stance across from an OT. If you are calling that OLB where a 3-4 essentially becomes a 4-3 then I agree and think MWilliams will have a great year rushing the passer barring injury.
