Lol, yep that’s true, but I mean we are Americans, we got the right to be pissed off at any thing!!! The French otta remember dubya dubya 2!!! /s

In all seriousness though, many people just didn’t understand the spectacle for whatever reason. Many assumed it was a slight on Christianity or just can’t stand to see Drag Queens participating in events should include everyone.

That’s exactly the point though, the French likely incorporated Drag Queens to attempt to demonstrate inclusivity. Something that sadly many nations are lacking in.

Don’t get me wrong, honestly I don’t understand the Drag thing, but I’m trying to understand what the French were trying to convey with this. It was a unique moment when all the worlds eyes were on France. I can’t think they were using this as an opportunity to throw some ridiculous jab at a religion or try to piss people off.

I think the French we’re attempting to do the opposite, but you can’t make everyone happy. That is true in something as simple as our immediate families at times, so on a world stage it is virtually impossible.

Celebrating excess, perfectly natural. Not just a perturbing American thing.

I'm kind of liking the new and improved Kasey better that the original hyper-serious Kasey. 😉

Agree 100 % I can see the so called intention of the Greek gods as their main focus , however and I can also see how so many would see this as a depiction of the Last Supper and be offended. I think they knew what they were doing by not giving any context to their intentions prior to the airing of this. There were many festivals that were devoted to mostly sensual/erotic practices . However the Greek Olympics were semi religious in nature, serious contests of mostly war related activities and not all out orgies, so that depiction is not accurate. But I think they knew that too. Still not outraged but can see how this was created to create controversy …. mission accomplished.

LOL at this discussion! They were trolling Christians for publicity imo. The producers have contradicted Jolly and said, "Jolly took inspiration from Leonardo da Vinci’s famous painting to create the setting" in a statement given to the media. They defended it by saying the painting had been used before, specifically citing the Simpsons and Andy Warhol. They have pointed out that they hired Jolly because "he knows how to break norms." Mission accomplished. Let's move on to Fall camp folks!

it’s a long table with people around it with no other similarities. Lots of classical paintings have long tables with people around it.

if you want to be offended though be consistent at least

last supper depicts Jesus with his 12 disciples. 6 to his left and 6 to his right. Kinda weird they decided not to do that if they were trying to really stick it to the Christians. It’s funny that you call others gullible when you turned on the TV and it told you to be mad and here you are mad.

Nobody told me to do anything. I watched the show and was shocked at what I saw. At first it was just weird, then it got gross. This was not family TV. It was intentionally offensive on many different levels. They knew what they were doing. If you thought it was wonderful. That's fine. If you want to believe the backtracking spin, that is fine also.

And my OP was just about the flag flying upside down. It was a bizzarro event that offended millions, maybe billions around the world. And to top it off they hung the flag upside down.

yeah they made a mistake with the Olympic flag which I’m sure was embarrassing for them. Don’t know why that would be offensive though. I didn’t have any strong thoughts about the opening ceremony they usually aren’t anything special. I was more disappointed seeing American politicians and commentators using a time of international celebration and camaraderie to advance their own domestic political agenda by spreading lies meant to stoke anger and division
