Making the deep ball a point of emphasis maybe the reason Arian is running with the 1st unit. His speed is undeniable. If he and Carson can connect on some deep balls it will open up the offense in a way we have not seen in a couple of years. With opposing safeties having to stay back from the line of scrimmage, look for Etienne and the Robinsons to explode. I can't wait. Go Dawgs!

London Humphreys averaged 20 yards a catch last year as a freshman at Vanderbilt. He had five TDs in 22 catches.

He's not Ant Evans-fast (much less Arian Smith-fast). But he can fly. And he's pretty long, too.

I'm hoping Bobo gives him enough practice reps to get his long-route timing right with Beck.

To me as a Dawgs fan it’s very exciting to me to hear that they are just working on more deep balls !! But to realize them in actual games more often is super exciting. Beck surely has the arm strength. If he and his intended target can get their timing connected this O could be down right nasty !! When you throw the RBs and TEs in the picture opposing D’s will be pulling their hair out trying to stop the Dawgs !! Can’t wait to see these guys in action vs Clems’on !! Go Dawgs !!

    oh, really?!

Not buying this headline with Arian Smith still suiting up for this team and playing the WR position.

Smith makes Landers look like the next coming of Jerry Rice.

Smith is obviously very fast. He needs to improve his route running and catching the ball. If the coaches have him as a starter, I am going to assume, until shown otherwise, he’s improved fairly dramatically in those areas. If that is in fact true, he can be a weapon.

The Landers comparison is interesting. If memory serves me correctly, the coaches always seemed excited about Landers because of plays he made in practice. Unfortunately, in real games he didn’t look good. Hopefully, this will not be the case with Smith, but so far his game performances have not been stellar. Again, assuming he has improved his route running and catching consistently is key. Now he’s got to show that in games. If he does, the O could be very potent.

Beck has the arm strength and accuracy for the deep ball. Consistency in running the correct routes and timing will hopefully be ingrained before the Clemson game. If the receivers and Beck can stay on the same page this offense could be epic.
