They did that once before when Bob Gibson was in his heyday…..1967 or 1968, I think….lowering the mound definitely affected him (and others I’m sure) never had a below 2.00 season ERA after that, I don’t believe.
They lowered the mound 10 inches in 1968
Could you imagine some of these fire ballers pitching froom a mound 10" higher than we have today?
Great extra inning win for the Bravos tonight. 8 out of their last11, I think. Iglesias is on a roll - has retired 39 of the last 41 batters he has faced. One win this weekend and we get another series. Got to keep on rollin'.
Yes!!!
And they gained a game on both the Phillies and the Mets in the process….
Now just 5 games back of the Phillies for the division and now 2.5 games ahead of the “lousy, stinking” Mets for that coveted last Wild Card spot!
Still could happen! (Forgive me for my former “dead to me” comment 🥹)
Go Braves!
Merrifield, Soler, and Urshela have turned out to be great additions by AA after all.
Have been very impressed with the defense of both Urshela & Merrifield.
Correction. I mistakenly stated that Iglesias had retired 39 of the last 41 batters he had faced. It's actually 40 of the last 41. My bad. Good job Iggy.
GO BRAVES!!!!
And the one that reached in 10th was erased by double play!
Our pitching staff leads the league in strikeouts I think I heard the announcers say. If our lineup gets somewhat healthy and clicks we can make a post season run with this staff. Bullpen concerns me a bit but I like our new dude Holmes to beef it up.
There have been a few "hiccups" for the pen along the way, but on the whole they have been pretty solid IMHO. I'm going to check on how our pen ERA stacks up. I think it isn't all that bad. I'll post it if I can find the data. Can't quibble about Iglesias, I don't think.
It's nice to have Harris III back.
Laureano is really looking like an everyday productive player as well! Not Acuna of course but Harris, Soler, Kelenic & Laureano give the Braves a solid outfield now and hopefully Duvall responds better with his original 4th/5th outfielder role and steady veteran bat off the bench.
Urshula looks great as well. Alex Anthopoulis is underrated.
not by me!!!
