How much does beating Alabama in Tuscaloosa really matter to Georgia football this week?
How important, perception or reality, is Georgia football beating Alabama on Saturday night?

Very important for both teams but for different reasons. DeBoer wants to set the tone for the start of his Bama tenure and show, like was mentioned above, that the program hasn't skipped a beat. DeBoer is 12-2 against Top 25 ranked teams as a head coach. Not too shabby.
Kirby wants to get the Bama *onkey off his back and set the tone as well going forward for this rivalry. The loss last year stung, and all the losses against Bama have come in crucial times with heartache and disappointment. Believe me, this game is super important to Kirby and also could be very important for playoff seeding depending on how things shake out down the road. But, a loss here certainly does not eliminate either team from the playoffs. However, if Georgia loses tomorrow then there will definitely be more pressure going forward on winning in what is going to be a much tougher regular season schedule than what Bama faces with a potential loss. The Dawgs have to show up on offense and defense and look like a completely different team than the one that played KY.
Overall, I guess I'd say it's more important - in reality - for Georgia to come away with a win simply considering our remaining regular season schedule is a harder beast than what Bama will face.
Very important game for both UGA/Kirby & Bama/DeBoer. Far more important for Kirby & UGA, though. The expectation after Saban retired was that Kirby/UGA would become the new standard. With a win, UGA has a chance to control the narrative regarding who's the current and future king of the SEC & college football. If UGA loses, that entire narrative changes, especially if we struggle on offense like we did against Kentucky. Questions will be asked about our offense, continued injuries, and how UGA can't beat Alabama. That narrative will matter big-time to recruits. This is a big game with far-reaching implications for UGA & Kirby.
CKS may not admit it publicly but you can bet the farm this game effen matters to him, the Dawgs, and the entire Dawg Nation. Our time is long overdue.
Go Dawgs!
This game is most important for Carson Beck. UGA has provided him with literally millions of dollars as a college senior student based on his 2023 performance and potential. He quickly upgraded his ride to a Lamborghini and his threads to make Deion Sanders jealous. I am afraid that he ate the rat poison. Carson has not looked the Heisman contender on the field through the first three games. This game is Carson's opportunity to make good on his end of the NIL deal with UGA and also to make amends for his fumble against Bama in last year's SECCG on his own goal line which proved to be the game losing play of the day and prevented us from being in the CFP. I am praying for Carson but he will need to show me tomorrow….
no opinion until there is only one comment box
You may be silent a while lol
Could we lose and then run the table the rest of the way and win the Natty ? Sure we did that before. BUt we had a boat load of help indoing so mainly that they lost their top 1st and 2nd round in the draft receivers. I'm as much of a homer as most but I don't believe we beat them if they had those two guys healthy. JUst like we probably beat them last year with a 100% healthy Ladd and Brock Bower and Amarus Mims, and then we win out, but we didin't have those guys healthy. Injuries are part of the game. Sometimes you're the benefactor and other times you're the giver.
Like Montana Dawg said and I've said previously . The top teams we have to play look much better now than they did IMO before the season started. We lose to BAMA and we could possibly be staring at 3 losses in the regualar season, not to mention the SECC game. Something I never would have considered before the KY debacle.
I fully agree with you. Like All Dawgs fans I want a W on this game in the worse way. BUT I caution my fellow Dawgs fans and myself not to get to depressed IF we lose this game. IF we lose I sure hope it will be by the thinest of margins in a very hard fought game.
But if we came back later and beat Bama in the SECCG this game would be only a memory. I ask my fellow Dawgs fans to Remember how we lost to Auburn during the regular season but came roaring back to beat them in the SECCG !!
That history could repeat its self here. Our team is filled with high quality but very young players and we have key veteran players out at This time. But as the season progresses those high quality young guys will gain more and more experience to transition to elite players.
So I Want us to win, I think we can win, I Believe in our Dawgs, but I’m mentally trying to prepare myself for a loss. If we lose big then Yes I’ll be crushed. But if we lose by a thin margin after a hard fought game then in my mind it’s a long season with plenty of Hope and Reason to turn things around to come out in the end a Winner. Go Dawgs !!
Off topic but just when you thought ESPN College GameDay couldn’t get much worse. Saban’s wife Terry is gonna be the celebrity guest picker ??!!?? Why don’t they just go ahead and change the name to Alabama Sports Network or Nick Saban Sports Network ?? The bias is so palpable you can almost smell it !! 😡
I’m surprised they didn’t offer it to the Bama AD, Greg McElroy, or AJ McCarron. Maybe fly in Roman Harper for the occasion.
I bet she picks bama to win.😆. Do y'all know Ryan Williams is only 17 years old 😳😝.. Go Dawgs!!!
I have to disagree with Jeff. If we lose we can’t say nor will we have the best roster. That sounds like something bama, clemson or auburn would say when they lose.
Where’s Cody Chafin’s take? He had more experience than n most of this Dawg Nation staff.
We have to start beating Bama to be known as the premier college football program in the land. Let's not be pretenders. Let's achieve that greatness we all want!! GO DAWGS
Every game matters. It's the record that counts. It is the "quality" of opponent that counts. It is the "quality" of the win that counts. This game is checks all of those markers. Our past record against Bama even going way back is less than desirable. Dawgs will have to play much better, especially offensively, against Bama to have a shot at winning. They'll have to figure out a way to contain Milroe and frustrate his throwing ability. Play a clean and efficient game and a win is possible. Some new "stars" have to come forward.
