Back from from another era, the time of no electricity or internet. My area was hit pretty hard, power went out approx 0330 9/27 and came back on 10/6 at 1730. I personally had very little house damage, just sides and roof splattered with debris. Have 8 large pines and assorted other trees laying in back yard, along with their assorted debris. Hwy 28 into Evans, Ga looks like a war zone.
I have still not watched Alabama game, will get to it maybe this week. I was able to watch Auburn game live. Power restored at our church on Friday night, so we opened social hall sat am and set up tv for anyone wanting to watch football or come into ac.

I have 2 sons in Florida, Inverness & Ft. Myers, I Praise GOD they had mostly debris and lost no trees or had home damage. I have been praying for Florida and all other areas suffering.

Thank you so much for posting! I've wondered how UGA fans were doing with so much of the southeast affected. Did Augusta as a whole take damage? I have dear friends in Statesboro who were without power for a timeframe similar to yours. Florida looks like it's going to get hammered.
Yes, many parts of Augusta are devastated. Had to go into Evans today, majority of traffic lights not working, various power trucks everywhere.

I'll try to give updates from the area of the Swamp - 10 miles away - as long as we have power. Supposed to start raining about 6AM Wed. morning. Not sure of wind, but suggestions are it won't be crazy windy - not sure exactly what that means. Stay tuned….

Just checked the latest tracking data - it looks like landfall will be further south than Tampa, taking the storm farther away from us. Looks like Venice (or close to it) will take the more direct hit. I think Kasey may be right - lots more rain/flooding up near Gator Land than wind damage.
I do know that our small town - 495 on any given day - has cancelled its annual arts and craft festival - scheduled for this Saturday. First time it hasn't gone off in over 50 years!! It brings about 35K-45K visitors to town just about every year.

I am also. So many people live there right next to the coast. Those storm surges are going to be very dangerous.
Gainesville, FL area: 3:45 AM - calm, not a hint of wind. Zero rain. Kind of eerie, knowing what's coming.

I sincerely hope that your son in Ft Myers has evacuated ahead of Milton. Looking like he will be hit very hard. On the west coast of Fl, the south side of the storm is going to be brutal as far as storm surge is concerned. On the East coast the North side of the storm is going to be the most dangerous.
Gainesville, FL area: 5:15 AM. Rain has started, not exceptionally hard. No wind to speak of yet.

In North East Florida 90% of the trees in rural areas are Pines. Pine trees have a shallow root system so will topple over after prolonged heavy rain without needing severe wind. Most such areas have above ground power poles to carry power to the communities so I expect many to lose power even with storm force winds.
