He only needed to inform Georgia of his intention. The school then has 48 hours to make it official which would be today.
Carson Beck is going to do what Carson Beck thinks is best for his pocket book and his career and I wish him the success he earns….I happen to think he'd come out better getting a spot on an NFL roster, hell we're talking a couple of million as opposed to several million….putting in the work and in a year or two the money will be there…..but hey, he's the only one that can call that shot….no matter what he does, I'll aways be an appreciative fan.
Yeah, the timing of this "news" is a bit confusing. But even if he missed this recent portal window, doesn't he have another in the spring? Go Dawgs!
This seems to be an unforce error by the UGA staff if it is true. Beck is a better qB than Stockton in this there is no debate. The narrative that the guys played hard for Stockton and they rallied around him just was not true. The O line was worst than ever and ET did not hit holes harder. We can fool ourselves that Beck is not better but it would not be true. If UGA had a chance and did not bring him back because of money says a lot about where we are at. If Beck just wanted to move on then I wish him luck.
I think it'll likely be feast or famine for Beck where ever he goes. If he gets back to the grind and loses that primadonna attitude I think he'll be fine. I got the sense that there was some resentment in the locker room. It really showed when he got hurt….the sense was good riddance, lets go Gunner.
Boy, I didn't see this one coming. There must be some bad blood or tension in the locker room or with the coaches that we don't know about. I seriously doubt fan comments has anything to do with this change of heart. It's gotta be money and/or something internal with the program. It makes no sense otherwise when going elsewhere means you have got to learn a WHOLE new offense for simply one season. It could be a complete bust or not.
Your last question is a tough one, maybe because it should be a broader one. Beck knows the play book better than anyone, including Gunner. But how much better might he be than the next guy, and is that amount worth the risk around durability of that elbow. As importantly, is that amount worth losing Gunner (or others) to transfer? And does that amount capture the potential impact on culture more generally? Regarding my last point, there seems a need for an incredibly competitive, lunch-pale mindset in the QB, and many people believe Gunner (or others) brings more of that than Beck. Go Dawgs!
My money says he will transfer to Miami as mentioned in the article. In fact, I’d take Miami in a bet against all other schools combined since Beck’s girlfriend is on the Hurricane basketball team. Good luck Carson and go Dawgs!!!
Carson Beck in '23 was worth $3M (I guess). I still think of CFB as "amateur" sports with Name Image and Likeness payments not pay for play. Just seems like a lot of money out of the NIL fund for what you got in '24. How much does GS get? Will he do as well next year? IDK.
But emptying the NIL fund for CBeck based on his play in '24 (compared to '23) coming off throwing arm surgery when you have a cheaper guy that looks comparable with more eligibility just doesn't make CBeck as valuable.
The NFL has salary cap casualties every year. Expensive guys that can still play that get moved aside for cheaper options. CFB beginning to emulate the NFL in every way. Why not in moving on from pricier options?
CBeck may be worth $3+M to somebody but not to UGA. If he were he would probably be back.
As for the '25 UGA O. Branch, Thomas and possibly Colbie Young (and 2 higher ranked freshman WR) seem to make the '25 WR room better than the '24 room. The TE room will be better in '25 than '24 as well. How can the RB room NOT be better? ETN should be better if he is not injured. Frazier should be better in his 2nd year. RRob would be a tremendous addition to the RB room if he is healthy. He was out the whole season.
OL? Not sure how the UGA OL can be statistically that bad and still have 2 AA's? Shows you AA is a popularity contest. There are some very big dudes in the UGA OL room. Need them to step up.
@Hemingwey last time I checked CBeck did not play defense. If anything CBeck carried the UGA O this season. UGA suffering its worst loss in years vs ND w/o Beck would seem to support that. If you think CBeck was the reason UGA didn't win a championship this year you are not looking hard enough at the rest of the team. CBeck's play was way down the list of detrimental things that negatively effected UGA's season. CBeck was the same player in '24 as '23. He just wasn't protected by the OL as well in '24. He also had receivers that caught the ball in '23.
Unfortunate that BEck hurt his arm in the SEC especially on a play that had a less than1% chance of working. THat stopped him from having a chance to lead his team to the Natty. Not saying it would have happened but he would of had the chance. Do I believe CB woud have given us a better chance to beat Notre Dame? Yes! And I said so before the game. Lots of folks got pixie dust in their eyes when GS led us back against Texas. BUt lets not forget CB did the same thing the first time, just as he has all year outside of the Ole MIss fiasco.
WHile GS did not cost us the game against ND, he didn't win it either. You can't tell me that a guy making his first career start was a better option than the guy who led the SEC in TD's and has 2 years of starting experience. If Gunner did provide a better chance of winning than CB did then Bobo and Kirby both need to go for not starting him sooner.
CB will make a lot of money somewhere no doubt and probably wll play with a better team, if not a more talented offensive team. HIs departure would signal to me that he doesn't see his situation being better at UGA next season, most of all from a OC situation. He's already aware that at least on paper UGA will have a much deeper and talented WR situation than he had this year. So, he would be leaving for the garaunteed NIL money but more importantly and a chance to work with an OC that could better utilize his talents.
If he thought CMB was some kind of QB guru who was getting more out of him than his talent showed(which some believe) he would be right back at UGA. He evidently doesn't think that. And he shouldn't.
And it's not even about the 3 million or 5-6 million whatever that's small fry compared to the 25-30 million signing bonus he could potentially get being the 1st or 2nd QB taken on draft day, provided he puts up big numbers next year.
Beck's performance this year wasn't helped by all the dropped balls. Our offense AND defense simply did not play elite except a couple of times (and that was mostly the defense).
Al Golden’s defense held Georgia to 296 yards and 10 points when we played Notre Dame — the fifth time this season the Bulldogs produced fewer than 300 yards of total offense in a game and the third time they scored only one offensive touchdown. That's how bad our offense performed this season.
Hopefully, Stockton or whomever will right the ship…
You can't blame Carson if a year's NIL deal will give him time to recoup, recover, and potentially improve his skill set. Sounds like he won't be recovered in time for Spring ball anywhere (Miami appears to be the leading candidate), but he will be ready for Summer workouts.
This was really nicely stated... agree wholeheartedly. Frankly, CB, the team, and the fans all need to look forward, IMHO... stepping backwards helps no one.
On to the next QB (hopefully with more leadership skills and "juice" to make the team truly believe as-one)... is it Gunner? I hope so, but trust in CKS to navigate these treacherous waters (for all teams 🫤). Gonna be exciting!
I think Beck saw how the team responded to Stockton when he was hurt. He knew they rarely responded like that to him.
Hey this is a business decision that Beck has to make. When you have an arm that can make all the throws and he has shown that with time and good receivers that he can get the ball too that he has elite skills. Give him another year like his junior year and there is no doubt he will get drafted in my opinion.
BINGO, BubbaBill…..I believe it'll be Miami too……Cause It ain't for money, fame, or better fortune but it's all for LOVE, and for that reason and that reason alone I'll raise a cold one tonight and toast Carson Beck, the Georgia QB with the most potential I have ever seen!
