Kirby Smart thinks he has the recipe to fix Georgia rushing offense in 2025

ATHENS â To get a sense of how serious Kirby Smart is about fixing the Georgia ground game, consider his comments on Thursday about tight end Oscar Delp.
Comments
“There is something about breaking someone’s will or saying ‘I have to move you from point A to point B,’ and movement is exactly that. Movement is what creates run game.”
I'm certainly not an expert on this subject, but I believe this statement (quoted above) addresses the problem specifically. Last season there didn't appear to be much of a difference between run blocking and pass protection. We didn't see DL players being moved backwards and holes open up on run plays, but instead they were stood straight up and kept from penetrating the LOS as if they were protecting the QB. Again, this is the observation of a non-expert, but the stats seem to line up with this assessment.
GO DAWGS!
sounds grea.t now how well we execute the plan will tell the tale
Terrell Davis, Garrison Hearst, Herschel Walker, Tim Worley, Musa Smith, Knowshon Moreno, Todd Gurley, Nick Chubb, D'Andre Swift, Sony Michel—we have always been a running team, even when it became sexy to have that West Coast offence. How many times over the years have we seen a dominant back and a dominant OL pound it until you wear their DL out and, in the fourth quarter, you can run them over like a steam roller? This has always been our modus operandi when we have the talent to do it. It's a beautiful thing to watch—hope to see it again. GO DAWGS
Let's hope that the tackles can hold up in pass pro against the better defenses. I think Kirby will get the run blocking fixed, but it is just as important to protect Stockton.
Fixing our offense is simple. Replace the offensive coordinator and his nonperforming assistants.
I'm still hopeful that Roderick Robinson can be our Derrick Henry if he can get on the field with any consistency. Looking forward to seeing McCray in action.
need more man OL blocking rather than zone
"Talent doesn’t seem to be the root of the issue with the run game for Georgia."
That just isn't serious. UGA has a dominant running game when they have 1st, 2nd or 3rd round picks like Robert Edwards, Musa Smith, Knowshon Moreno, Robert Gurley, Nick Chubb, Sony Michel, D'Andre Swift and James Cook. (And the 2nd and 3rd round picks are better when they have a strong backup like the 1000 yard rusher Elijah Holyfield who backed up Swift, plus 4th round pick Zamir White technically started over James Cook). When UGA doesn't have big time talent at RB the running game is inconsistent like it was in 2023 when the rushing game was led by a couple of undrafted free agents and even worse in 2024 when it was led by a 6th round pick talent (who was taken in the 4th because of his last name) Trevor Etienne and a true freshman who needed to spend a year in the weight room to improve his explosiveness and getting position coaching to work on his cutbacks Nate Frazier.
This is absurd. When it comes to defensive players - DT, pass rusher, CB, safety - absolutely no one claims that going two or three years with a bunch of 3rd day draft picks and undrafted free agents "isn't a talent issue." No, at those positions everyone demands the next Jordan Davis, Jalen Carter, Roquan Smith, Mykel Williams or Malaki Starks. But when it comes to offense, having 5th round picks and undrafted free agents at RB, WR and TE is just fine! We just need a better offensive coordinator! (Never mind that Todd Monken had Brock Bowers surrounded by a ton of 2nd and 3rd round picks at WR, RB and TE.) We just need a QB who prioritizes toughness, grit and leadership over NIL deals! (Never mind that Stetson Bennett IV was the first UGA player to get a million dollar NIL deal.) We just need better execution and a tougher attitude!
Yeah, right. Kirby Smart doesn't value talent at the skill positions on offense the way that he does on defense and on the offensive line. Until that changes, UGA is going to watch other teams have playoff success in years when they don't have generational talent on defense and don't have a bunch of guys way outplay their recruiting rankings on offense like Brock Bowers, Ladd McConkey and Adonai Mitchell (another 2nd round pick) did.
you talk like you know things but you really don’t. Milton and Edwards went undrafted not bc of lack of talent, but bc UGA is a meat grinder. None of these guys leave healthy. Same thing with ETN. Guy was the offensive MVP when healthy last year. Turn on his tape at fu and tell me that’s a 6th round talent.
Kirby absolutely values talent outside. Last year’s actions showed it. You never mention it or if someone brings it up you don’t respond, but we don’t get Talyn Taylor or CJ Wiley without spending to do so. Obviously remains to be seen if that worked out.
Kirby likely stayed away from big WR names because of diva behavior from guys like George Pickens and Jermaine Burton the juice likely wasn’t with the squeeze. Especially when you have guys like Bowers, Ladd, and MRJS.
I remember back to 1985 my Father and I watching in Jax , Lars Tate, Worley and Henderson running all over the Gators! Hopefully, with .renewed vigor we will see a better year running it with Frazier, McCray, R. Robinson and Cash Jones catching those swing passes out of the back field! This will make it easier for Mr. Gunner.. Go Dawgs!!
Ole tape recorder here, but what the heck here I go again lol !! Provided the O Line does at least pretty decent this RB room is gonna pleasantly surprise allot of Dawgs fans.
Nate Frazier will be a Beast. Cash Jones will be even better than he has been and that’s saying allot. Keep an eye on the freshman Walker before this season is over he’s gonna really open some eyes wide !! If R. Robinson can stay healthy he is a Beast to !! McCray is highly touted.
Just got a gut feeling the RBs are gonna be better than expected. And of course if they are that should compliment the pass game.Sprinkle in some designed runs for Gunner along and along.
It All hinges on the O Line. They’ve GOT to play better and Consistent in Both assignments for the Dawgs to have a potent Offense. I think they will rise to the occasion. Go Dawgs !!
