agreed. Kid is a gamer but with that RB room we don’t need to see him much. I’m hoping Kirby was giving him some love early against a paycheck opponent.

he has no elite tangible traits. Good arm but he doesn’t have a cannon like other higher level QBs. Decent athleticism but no one is going to confuse him with a true dual threat QB. Average size for QB. To me he’s like a better Jake Fromm. If he can get the mental game down that should be fine. But a QB like Puglisi has a rocket arm, similar athleticism, and ideal size which makes his ceiling higher than Gunner.

Yeah be Sure to know I wasn’t trying to dis your comment . I have Allot of respect for yours and most all of our fellow Dawgs fans here. There’s one or two ( not shown here today so far) that want to fire Gunner before he even gets a Real chance to prove himself.

I have absolutely nothing against Puglisi. I like him. And If he proves to be the better QB then fine bring him own. But Gunner like Beck did, has waited his time. We all know that in most cases it’s allot more than just a WR charging down the field to catch a pass. No he has to run a preset route and also shake off any defenders, get open. That takes precious time. I just want to see our O Line provide that time regardless of which QB we have in the game.

I also want to see them open some decent holes for our RBs. Both of those issues are not asking them to do something extraordinary, it’s just doing their job.
What I’m wondering is it coaching or player execution ?

Speaking for me I’m afraid it’s the coaching. We had several O Line players go to the NFL last draft, so apparently the pro teams saw things they liked in those Dawgs they drafted. If it is coaching KS better have a long heart to heart with Searls. Just my opinions.

I agree Puglisi has the traits you’d look for to be a future NFL QB. And he might have a little better arm strength. A little. But Gunner also has plenty of arm strength. Sometimes he throws a little To hard. He can most definitely make the deep throws down field if given a chance. He made a very nice deep toss to Arian Smith last year where he did put just the right touch on it.

Just my opinion but I think Pugs has a slightly better arm where Gunner has slightly better legs. But your right as rain that Pugs has better height to see over the line of scrimmage better than Gunner.

I wouldn’t rule Gunner out of being NFL material in a lower round much like Stetson Bennett. Maybe that’s what KS was talking about as far as confidence. But I tell ya if I had Gunners legs and saw some huge D Lineman bearing down on me I’d be awful tempted to tuck the ball and run to !! I guess KS wants him to hang in there a couple more seconds to let the play develop. But I’d rather him run and get Some yards than be sacked !! But that’s why I’m not a HC !! 😀

Improve in the passing game. Deep ball passing, the intermediate passing accuracy!!! . Pug ( back up QB) is coming by game 5. Because you need the arm strength and accuracy in the SEC. Big boy football

Um Gunner was thrown in the fire in the SECCG when Beck got injured. Threw a beautiful deep pass to Arian Smith. He helped win last year’s SECCG. I like Puglisi allot to but he played his first college football against Marshall not exactly a tough opponent. Pugs has huge potential an upside but very little SEC level experience. For the team’s sake I wouldn’t be hoping he knocks Gunner out by game 5.

I agree. It’s a distinct possibility. Even if Beck hadn’t got injured as he was struggling mightily in that game.

It’s pretty simple - Dawgs were behind when Beck went down with only 3 points on the board. Dawgs put 19 more on the board when Gunner came in.

Dawgs wouldn’t have won without him is what I said. Which I believe most reasonably intelligent people would also say that watched the game. I didn’t say anything about Beck - but since you did, you have “no way of knowing” that he would have brought them back.

Facts are - Gunner brought them back and I am pretty dang sure the Dawgs wouldn’t have won that game without him.

Don’t lump two conversations into one with a response.

We certainly don't need to see him running up the middle when he IS in the game. With DPhillips able to fill the same role as CJones I'm not sure I see much of a role for him this season.

Also, I think GS has a bigger arm than JFromm. Fromm was a cerebral QB. Still to be shown if GS has the offense and reads down as well as Fromm did.

I agree. Beck had struggled all night. I find it highly improbable that he would have brought the Dawgs back that night. When Gunner came out there the team seemed to find new energy. They rallied behind him and the rest is history. I guess nothing is impossible. But I see it the same way Eastman.

I don’t like QB controversies at all as they only breed ill will among fellow fans. But even now there’s I think, I hope a little segment of fans that would fire Gunner today if they could and put Puglisi in. I have Zero, Nada, Zilch, against Pugs. I Like him !! And I to see the potential in him. Huge upside. By the way media loves things like QB controversies gives them something toxic to write about !!

But he simply doesn’t have In Game Experience. Heck the amount that Gunner has is woefully inadequate. But he has Far more than Pugs. I just don’t see Pugs beating Gunner out at this juncture. But it’s All up to KS if he feels Pugs is better than so be it.

But all I can say is Gunner is no slouch given the Right opportunity (O Line) kid set state records at Rabun HS. I know, J know that was HS this is the SEC but don’t All our kids come from some HS or other.

Now it seems we have WRs that can actually catch the ball, now all we need is the O Line to do Their job ( Coach Searls pick up the phone). Neither Gunner nor Pugs will have as much success if the O Line breaks down. I hope Dawgs fans will Fully support whichever QB is under center as it should be. On that note I hold no malice against Beck and wish him well unless it’s playing our Dawgs.

Gunner Senior Year At Rabun County HS. You just don’t get these numbers being a slouch at QB I don’t care if it’s HS !! Cause the people your playing With and you play Against are all HS level. Rabun County is a AA school but look at Brock Vandergriff he came from a school equal to class A.

As a senior in 2021, he led them to the state playoff quarterfinals again with a 12–2 record while throwing for 4,134 yards, 55 touchdowns and only one interception, being named All-State for the fourth time in his career and being named the Gatorade Georgia Player of the Year.

    [5][13]

He set the state records in passing touchdowns, total passing and rushing touchdowns and combined passing and rushing yards.

    [13

Ryan Puglisi Senior Year. He has a Very impressive record as well. I think we’re in Excellent shape having him as a Dawg. Here’s the thing though IF he follows through and signs Jared Curtis has better credentials than Both Gunner and Pugs !! The future could get really interesting at UGA !!

As a senior, Puglisi threw for 1,858 yards and 15 touchdowns, while rushing for more than 350 yards and four touchdowns.

    [3]

In addition, he competed in the finals of the 2023 Elite 11 quarterback competition.

    [4][5]

Following his senior season, Puglisi was named the Gatorade Connecticut Football Player of the Year.

    [6][7]
