He has a lot of respect for the now-unemployed Billy Napier. The two worked together at Alabama before Napier spent the previous three seasons running the Florida program.

I wouldn't feel sorry for anyone making guaranteed millions over a few years. A good accountant, and they are set for life.

Wonder why they (Dawgn8n) would put up an old picture with this new article…talk about being lazy , Connor. I'm thinking Kirby would love to have Starks this year…but I'm sure if you try a little harder you can find a current season photo.

Bring Billy on as an analyst. You can have as many as you want and maybe he can being some of his players with him for next year. While I like our wr moving forward they have some guys who would add experience and proven production. A couple of their DL and secondary would not hurt either even though our guys are showing improvement on a down to down basis. We unfortunately have just had too many drive extending mistakes that would have allowed us to get off the field to notice the improvement. Anyway, I think we see this team continue to grow and hopefully really come into its own down the stretch. From extensive and detailed field watches I can see the light. Whether they tune up the last bit and get it done will remain to be seen. Go Dawgs.

Is it weird to say that Napier is just too decent of a guy to run the program at UF? Like, I don't think schools tend to have public d!@#head as a job requirement, but that has definitely been FL's tendency for pretty much my entire lifetime. "Are you capable of being a jerk on camera? Get in line, buddy. You might be next."

That's just seemed to be the way of it. There's a sort of "heel" mentality that UF has expected of its coaches.

    Well…

Maybe it hasn't been expected, but it's definitely been a common denominator. Meyer and Mullen are standouts, of course.

Sure, sure, sure, he hasn't been able to create a winning season with what ought to be winning talent, but that's beside the point I'm making. BA spoke to something similar in a podcast about a year ago.

Winning will never not be an issue, obviously, but it seems to my (very biased) understanding that UF would prefer to win with what the crotch of America would consider "style."

his cardinal sin was stubbornness. He should’ve relinquished his OC duties after the first year. Billy the OC got Billy the HC fired.

Is it bad….I liked that guy though. I never saw him as a jerk.

Napier inherited a mess from Mullen and I thought he was making progress. Tough losses with a killer schedule played a big part in his demise, not sure who could have done much better under the circumstances.

@flipside…what ? Mullen actually beat us once. That program is substantially worse now than when Sun Belt Billy took over.

not quite. He’s upgraded the talent and focused on high school recruiting. Mullen won with McElwain’s guys and left little for Napier.
