THEre are several clips of the UGA game pregame and post-game floating around. One I saw pregame was Gunner and Thomas practicing the 1st TD throw to Noah. Gunner rolling out right nd throwing on the run. As they say practice makes perfect!
Guess why the onside kick was brilliant—-it worked. What would you be saying today if Texas had recovered it on the 50 and gone down and scored? I agree with Kirby that to win big today you have to take chances—that and a little luck to take you all the way to a Natty!!
What's not to like about playing at Georgia. Championship football. League-level development. Elite facilities. Quality living in The Classic City. Great education. Solid paycheck.
Question— could Cash Jones have kept running when he caught that onside kick in stride? Just curious about the rules. In any case, gutsy call by Kirby, and terrific scoop by Cash. Go Dawgs!
Speaking of a little walk on from Texas, am I the only one that is wondering WHY after catching that onside kick bounce on the run with nothing but open field in front of him, why did Cash slide down to the ground? I mean ,he certainly made up for that total brainfart of stepping out of bounds around the first down marker with the ball in his back hand but per the camera angle I was watching it appeared he had lots of open space…oh well, either way, what a beautifully executed kick by Woodring. What a weapon!
Pretty sure the rules state that you cannot advance a recovered on-sides kick so keeping on running wasn’t an option. My son was a place kicker in high school and successfully executed a couple of those in his career but I’ve never seen one executed by the kicker and the recovery player done so well. Pretty sure 99.999% of the world, including me, was not expecting that.
You cant advance an onside kick recovery. Back on the couch!
The rule states that if the kicking team does recover and attempt advance the ball on an onside kick, it is a penalty and the ball goes over to the receiving team (per google search). So it was a really heads up play on Cash's part and likely a rule that coaches had discussed with him several times during those 250 reps!
Yep, in college football the onside kick is dead at the spot it is recovered by the kicking team. I think Cash recovered around the 48-50 yard line and ran about 10 yards before going down. The officials then placed the ball close to where Cash first touched it. Go Dawgs!!!
you can’t advance an onside kick as the kicking team
Sorry for all the blank posts. I must have hit the “post” button multiple times. I don’t know if it’s my age (80) or Vietnam that caused this issue 😂. Go Dawgs!!!
