Pat Narduzzi: How Pitt got the jump on Haynes King, complex Georgia Tech offense
Pat Narduzzi: How Pitt got the jump on Haynes King, complex Georgia Tech offense
Pat Narduzzi short circuited Haynes Kingâs electrifying Heisman Trophy run in the first quarter of Pittâs 42-28 win over Georgia Tech last Saturday in Atlanta.
Comments
Pitt ran for 186 yards, and 6-5 NC State (whom Tech also lost to) ran for 243 yards.
If we can't run on these boys then something is terribly wrong…
Last year was a marathon. Historically, this game is (been watching for 58 years) usually pretty close. No reason why this one won't be that either. It has been encouraging to see this edition of Dawg team progress each week. Hopefully we'll be ready. It'll almost be like a home game at MB stadium. This is an important game for many reasons. Git 'er dun Dawgs!
I would imagine this will be the first adjustment that Coach Key will make for this game, stack the box and make Stockton beat them with his arm. I think Gunner will certainly accommodate them. I see a huge game for Bell and the TEs…
Take off the sack yardage, and Pitt ran for over 200 yards on the ground.
If Pitt hadn't of started playing not to lose instead of playing to win early in the 2nd half, the score would have been a lot worse than it was..
lol just because Pitt and NC state play them and beat them doesn’t mean Georgia will do the same. We have a bad habit of playing a team that that peaked out. FSU beat bama and we lose to bama..go figure
that sounds like a Georgia team.. takes the foot off the gas
bama didn’t have Tim Keenan or jam miller in that game either
The Only reason this game is concerning is the fact that it’s a heated hate full rivalry. GT is just not that good. They lost to unranked NC St. They barely by the skin of their bugs teeth got by Boston College by only two points. And although they tried to stage a come back they as Yall know lost to Pitt 42-28 !!
Now as I said it’s a bitter rivalry game they Always play their best game of the year vs our Dawgs. Still Dawgs have better players and better depth across the board than the Bugs. Rivalry game or not the Dawgs should Win this game handily score wise. It Will be a war until late in the third qtr. Dawgs break away and win by 17 points. Go Dawgs !!
UGA should duplicate Pitt's success easily. Pitt was a fast start team is the only difference. Let Tech hang with you and story changes. Pitt applied pressure all four quarters. Tech has little to no defense. The offense sputtered to life for a bit but Pitt came right back and scored in late going to seal the victory. UGA needs to get off this QB King obsession and bedevil him like Pitt did. UGA is a far superior team this year. UGA is getting spooked by King…just shut him down. No excuses to lose this one, Kirby. None.
Too bad the schedule for bama and Texas turned out the way it did. If we had played Texas in September, we would’ve beat them worse than we did this month. If we played bama now, I believe we would beat them.
Go Dawgs! Wreck tech!
One other note that I haven't seen mentioned here or elsewhere. With Pitt up 28 - 0 & Tech driving (on @ Pitt 30), Tech went for it on 4th down. They were stopped but given a first down due to a very questionable unsportsmanlike on Pitt DB for "talking" to Tech player or bench. Tech went on to score & make it 28-7. With that stop, it's still 28-0 & Pitt's ball. May have been game over so a lot of Tech's "comeback" was built from tightening the score after going in for that TD making it 28-7.
Good and insightful piece MG! Not a mention of what ESPN says nor picking apart the Monday presser with Kirby! Something original!! LIKE !
Exactly !! Very well spoken !! Yes it’s a rivalry game. Yes GT will give their all. Yes for a bit it’ll be a struggle. No GT won’t win. Dawgs Should win this game by a solid score. GT is not that good of a team !! They lost to unranked NC St. and only by two points squeaked past Boston College !! They tried hard to make a come back vs Pitt but it was to no avail !!
And as @Max pointed out the Refs tried to help GT with the unsportsmanlike call !! It’d been 28-0 at the half if not for that questionable call. Dawgs need to just go in stay focused, execute the plays and Beat The Bugs !!
Biggest concern in the long run is getting out without any significant injuries !! Before GT played Pitt and Dawgs played Charleston, GT’s Strength Of Schedule was #188 nationally !! Where as the Dawgs was #12 !!
I have to give Pitt a tip of the cap because Within Their Conference they are a pretty good team. They were impressive in their win vs GT. But to be realistic outside of their own Pitt might not even be all that great.
So our Dawgs should respect that this is a rivalry game and they DO need to take care of business but I fully agree with you, Fear shouldn’t be in the picture for our Dawgs !! Go Dawgs !!
Yeah a hearty Thank You to Pitt and Coach Narduzzi for providing some insight on how to better handle King and the Bugs. I noted that Kirby said he Did watch that game. So he has the “ official” vid snippets and the relaxed view from his living room. Kirby will have a plan for them !!
Go Dawgs !!
