I think it is wishful thinking to think UGA will host the first round if they lose this week. Bama did not move up in the polls for the win at Auburn , staying put at #10. UGA has NOT been treated well recently in these scenarios, 2023 comes to mind. More likely they will travel for the first round if they lose.
I know what CKS said about this game, but UGA has more to lose than gain by playing. Alabama, on the other hand, could lose their CFP spot entirely by losing. I think Alabama will be more motivated and healthier for this game.
According to all reports I've read, they will do it without their top RB Jam Miller due to a lower leg injury sustained during the iron bowl. That puts a little more on Simpsons shoulders. Pressure him and he will make mistakes, he looked average most of the game against auburns defense, and their pressures.
@railroadtrack1 Just curious, but what would Georgia have done to merit hosting a 1st round game if they lose twice - at home and at the Mercedes Benz stadium that is a second home - to a 2 loss Alabama team? UGA fans have done a lot of harping on the schedules of other programs this year, but the only actual contender that UGA has beaten this year is Ole Miss. Tennessee, Texas and Georgia Tech, who UGA fans have spent most of the year hyping up based on how the former 2 did last year (with very different teams) and the latter starting out 8-0 finished 8-4, 9-3 and 9-3 respectively. That 44-41 OT game against Tennessee looks great if you regard the Vols UGA is going to be behind the teams with better records - Ohio State, Indiana, Oregon, the Texas Tech/BYU winner, Ole Miss, Texas A&M - as well as the Alabama team that beat them twice. Even if you concede that UGA is the second best of the 2 loss teams - a concession that not everyone is going to make - that puts UGA no higher than #8.
I really hope UGA is ready for this contest. History has shown, we fall to show up until after down by double digits. We need the offense and defense to be playing at a high level and don't stop. GO DAWGS!!!
Georgia will win! Bama Iron Bowl took an overall toll. Really tough scrum. Dawgs will be ready to BATTLE this one out. Too many losses to Bama. Team seems eager to GET IT ON! GO DAWGS!!!
How will smart and bobo choke against bama… Sad to say, this has become our national championship.
I remember in 2021 I thought that because Rburn got after Bryce Young …7 sacks I think…that the SECCG would be easier.
apparently our players dealt with the flu or something and we lost big.
How did Rburn do what they did? How did OU do it?
SCar almost beat them too!
The Dawgs have got to get the AL **** off their back!
@jdatl3 Smart's issues with Bama long preceded Bobo. Indeed the much beloved Monken was 1-2 against Bama.
Just curious, who is the team you root for/back?
The one thing I hate worse than Bama is losing to Bama. That and playing at the dark Mercedes Benz Home Depot Warehouse.
If Auburn could of held onto the ball they beat BAMA. Credit BAMA for knocking it loose but by-goodness the Auburn guys were obvoiusly never coached in ball protection. That said the secretto beating BAMA is to harass the mess out of the BAMA QB. Gve him time and he'll just pick you apart.
Random, bobo choked against bama in 2012 with qb murray. There's lots of history there.
With all the buzz going around about the sports betting scandal in the NBA and MLB , AU's performance last night warrants closer scrutiny. Interim coach, 8(?) dropped passes and 5 (?) 4th Q fumbles (not all lost) is just too suspicious.
I do not see UGA making the top 4 seeds with a loss in the SECCG. Probably move up to #2 seed with a win in the SECCG. AL probably moves to 4 w/a win. UGA probably moves to 5 or 6 w/a loss. 3 BIG10 in the top 4 does not seem reasonable.
@MACDAWG "just curious who is the team you root for/back?" I see a lot of logic in @randomsportsfan comments about UGA's schedule after TN was beaten soundly by Vandy yesterday.
Let me explain the difference between a sports fan and a coach. A sports fan praises every good thing about their team and mostly ignores or fails to recognize the things that need improvement. A coach acknowledges the good things but also accentuates, annunciates and focuses on the areas that are deficient and in need of improvement. A coach can be a sports fan but tend to be more objective. They understand where improvement is needed to reach full potential. Coach-think is all about what needs to be improved to achieve perfection. Those are the opportunities to increase the probability for success. That is what a coach is there to do.
I'm glad you see a lot of logic in the comments by "randomsportsfan". I asked a simple question that had nothing to do with his "logic". As he said in an earlier post, I was "just curious". Where is his answer?
UGA lost to Ala by 3 points and had a golden opportunity to win the game on the 4th down play. We didn't. I can accept that criticism, but we should have won the game. We've improved since then. That is our only loss. Ala gets a mulligan for a loss against a terrible FSU team but UGA should be given consideration for playing a "true" top ten, perennial powerhouse team in an extra game where the other team actually has a reason to be motivated than we do? (not saying they are, but if they loose, they're out)
UGA has beaten a lot of good teams.
I think I remember someone saying the "committee" won't penalize higher ranked teams for having to play a conference championship game. It's an extra game, more chances for injury, motivation can be a factor, etc.
Also, maybe look at what the teams on our schedule were ranked when we played them and where we played them. I think we should get some bonus points for some of our games. We basically play Fla every year on their home turf. I don't care what you say, it's not a neutral site. I've gone to the game since 1981, and it's not neutral.
Agreed, having a second loss is not good. However, most teams don't have to line up and play an extra game against a top ten team. Why should we be punished for that if we have a competitive game against them at a neutral site?
