Thanks @JeffSentell , nice article. Good to know who is lining up next to break our last minute decommit hearts…lol. Hopefully Gilbert and Barner value development over dollars. Cheers mate.

Kirby is wasting his time with a 5 star. No $$$. Spend it on some 4 star lineman!

It's hard to take recruiting serious now. Whoever shows up and signs is what we get I guess. Even then more and more want to leave, so where does that leave the fans? This is one who won't hang on every word some wishy washy 18 year old spouts out.

All we can muster for DL recruits is the #41 & 51 players at that position? Wow, color me not impressed. I guess word is getting around that we don’t pay 💰 bags of money!

I think one of the misconceptions (perhaps it's a myth) that UGA fans repeatedly have is that places that pay more money than UGA can't, or won't, develop them. While Kirby Smart and his assistants obviously do a great job of developing kids and getting them to the NFL, other schools do, too. Ohio State, Miami, Oregon, Texas, Texas A&M, and many more, are all sending players to the NFL. And many of those schools are paying top-dollar for players. So, high school kids are no longer buying the argument that the only place they can be developed for an NFL career is at the University of Georgia.

“I would love to go there. I don’t know where I’m actually going, but they are definitely a top-three team. I mean, it’s home. It is Georgia.”

I know I’m ole school and all but what is going on here? Chance says, “I would love to go there.” If I said that and got offered a scholarship plus some NIL money, my recruitment would be over. I would go where “I would love to go….” and no bidding war would make me change my mine. They would not be “definitely a top-three team.” They would be “my team.” Some things are more important than money. Things like being where you “love to go.” Unregulated NIL is ruining college football. More significantly, it’s ruining these young men. It’s resulting in important life decisions being made on the bases of greed or the love of money.

I know there’s no way I, as a 17 or 18 year old could have properly handled $100,000, much less $1,000,000 or more. These kids, yes they’re kids, are being influenced by the wrong things and wrong people. Being happy and enjoying the best years of life is about so much more than money. Go where you “would love to go.” Yes, it’s that simple. Don’t let some greedy, immoral agent ruin your best years.

And yes, as pointed out by @DallasDawg, many schools can develop players. My point is going to the highest bidder is not the best basis for deciding where to go to college. I would go where “I would love to go.” I repeat that I’m ole school, but experience in life has taught me that life is about many things that are much more important than money. The younger generations, at least some of them, don’t seem to understand that.

Chance, go where “you would love to go.” You’ll be doing what “you love to do.” That’s one of the most important things any of us can do in life. Personally, I gave up big bucks as a lawyer to do what I loved to do. I became a law professor. Best decision I ever made. Why? Because I was able to do what “I love to do.” Made less money, but made a better life for my family.

As much as I wish we could land him ive followed him and other articles of other sites closely with all recruits and he seems like almost a sure fire miss. He was almsot guaranteed Clemson early. I believe he has ties there but I may be wrong about that. Either way their struggles may have opened the door a bit, but the things guys say and do that end up at uga have not been to that level with this kid. Maybe I'm wrong and things can always change in an instant, but I've rarely been wrong about any player the last 2 years and especially the ones ranked highly very early. Ive been right on several guys reading between the lines of what they say and do when interviewed by uga sources and they ultimately have gone elsewhere despite my prediction coming way early back when the guys were seen as heavy heavy uga leans. Atkinson and dj jacobs are two that while everyone said they were almost sure things and those guys on surface had the visits and said things that certainly didn't rule uga out and even seemed pro uganalways said similar things or showed more interest in other places. It was also more about what they would always bring up like atkinson and always worried about his brand and dj jacobs how he was positive about uga but in every interview without being brought up he would mention how his parents were not forcing or encouraging them to go to anywhere and letting them make their own choices it wont be the end of the world when we miss this guy, but would be awesome to land him. We will always get guys overlooked who are just as good or have the measurable to be and then turn them into aa good or better of a player. I wish the game would allow for us to obtain and stack talent like it once did. However that isnt reality and there nothing can be done about it. We will get some, but there will be many misses bc everyone has lots of misses especially when you take the swings and have the interest of plauers that uga gets. While 5 stars have a solid ~50% hit rate (much higher than any other str rating) it's still only 50%. As long as we continue to be great at development which we are our guys will continue to shine in a year or two. If feeling down think of all high draft picks or great players from lesser schools and how they every yesr were lowly or not rated at all. Our staff has measurable.and traits they look for. Very specific that gives us the ability to take guys who are good or have the potential and make them into better players than 5*. So while getting some and being better at identifying future others the future is bright and will always have us in the mix. Which is all that can be realistically asked of anymore. Some years it wont be your year. Others it would have been and things just wont work out. It takes a lot of luck and things aligning just right to win nc. Its always been that way but to a lesser degree bc of ability to stack and hold onto talent. Without that level of talent separation there will be years it just isnt your time although we will be close and in the mix. As long as you make the playoff anything can happen. We are primed for that as good as any. Hopefully we land this kid or some other high end guys. Our strategy is the more sustainable one and id rsther develop than be a team that relies on others to do their dirty work. Either way we will get guys that give us a chance to win it all every year. We had highly rated guys in the last classes and we have had guys like dinkins and Glover who were overlooked and have turned out as better talent/players than 98% of the rest of college football and their class. Most freshmen don't play at all or contribute very little. Yet we hit on guys like gaston, Glover, dinkins, Barbour, talyn taylor, Landon roldan, zayden walker, jj hanne and probably others who were able to contribute or be big contributors as freshmen. Something almost unheard of being able to be done at uga previously. We have many guys in 26 that fit that same mold. Will be a great year and looking forward to future classes

Its just one junior day. There is another on 31st and we have had other guys come in. In the last 2 cycles we just got elijah griffin number 1 dl overall snd valdin sone who was ranked #2dl by247. Just bc guys arent on a certain visit doesnt mean we wont land them later. The ranking also doesnt matter. Remember Jordan davis the 3*. What about jj hanne who was a low 3* and still found the field this year over 5* and top 50 and 100 guys. Donnie Glover was beat ol besides Monroe freeling and he was a 3*. The team pays. Tbey just dont go way above value. Something desperate teams have done bc someone may need them more than we do. Yall have to see the whole and real picture. You cant stack like you used to. We will get some high rated guys and guys who are under rated. Some may have to develop more its a diff era but we get guys who can play and win games. Who will be draft picks despite their lower rating. No sense in frieking out over one visit weekend. Especially when the majority of players that teams buy out from us last second paying way over market price are turning out to be bust or nkt contribute at all early like Justus Terry for one. Our team will always be competetive and have a chance ro win it all. Thats all you can do in a playoff era that relies more on.luck and building up to the correct and specific year that ages and players sticking around happen to be seasoned enough

While I've noticed that as well it's also a misconception that we wont pay. We do and a lot. We just don't go way over what a player is believed to be worth when teams are willing to go back and forth. That can throw your whole roster off. It just burnt ole miss when their players found out new guys were making more. It also eats up money for other pieces you may need. Uga has money but we don't have unlimited money. We also r great at identifying overlooked guys or taking guys who have a slightly lower ranking than the 5* and turning them into guys just as good or nfl players who play winning football. Ppl are over reacting to this past year bc it just happened to be a reset year after losing all experience for too many years. Injuries have caused tbe team to come up shorter than it should have the past 3 seasons. It happens. I wish we could just spend and bid like texas and miami and others but at some point it isnt worth it. You have to have other pieces and guys don't pan out all the time. We are not in near the trouble people are acting like. The team over achieved as no other program in the country with players in the yesr f development that our guys were would have or did make the playoffs. Ole miss gsme was a combination of things like injuries, just not playing best and chambliss/ole miss just happening to be on fire that day. Still we had the game won it just didnt work out. Ppl are taking last year a year we never really should have had a shot and combining it with the precious yesrs. Yesrs were last yesr b4 thr season started we were dealing with tok many injuries and missing players like x wr's and that lasted all year. In 23 we were the best team but ladd and Brock being as hurt as were caused us to lose a game by 3 to a talented bama team. Had the playoff expanded we would have dominated tbe playoffs. That was our first loss in 3 years and it was by 3 with 2 all pro nfl players barely able to walk. I get its frustrating not landing all the talent we used to hoard. It sucks when the team doesnt win it all. There are reasons it happened and most were uncontrollable. More thsn ever we will see more random champions. It takes luck and other factor as much as the team to win it with a playoff model. We still field a team and develop to where our team if the breaks go right In the fight yesr we can win it all. It may not happen or it could. Every year it is up for grabs and how things play out over tbe course of the season and that goes for everyone. We may miss on some 5* guys we previously wojldnt have. We will still land guys with 5 star capabilities and mold them into that. Others can offer some development as well. We still land some guys who recognize our development is at a different level. That had some to do with several signings lasf year I get angry like everyone. But have to remind myself that talent objectively wasnt the real issue. We still have and get more thsn enough. Just bc they are 3* doesnt mean they wont be better than 5* just look at Donald Glover and freshmen all American and possibly tbe best freshmen and one of best overall lineman in country last year with the strict traits and characteristics we look for we are able to take guys slightly lower ranked and get them to 5* status once on campus. The future is bright. It just comes down to accepting reality and current state of the game and what uga has to do to realistically maximize the team with the resources at hand.
