Just another reason to despise ND- won’t play anyone, wont join a conference in football so they can keep ALL their money but wants a guaranteed spot- what a bunch of crybabies
Excellent Comments !! And Excellent Reasoning !! That much Bye time is totally toxic !! I Wrongly thought Kirby would be able to mitigate it. But alas it was a saber through the heart !! If the Same Dawgs that played in the SECCG had played even Two weeks after I think they’d have showed up Huge !! Some will say it’s making excuses but No because many other teams wilted and died as a result of such a lengthy Bye.
But what’s done is done. As Ms. Jane off the Beverly HillBillys would say Onward !! Excelsior !! In English that means Go Dawgs !! 🤣
Excellent idea !! And pick the most neutral person possible to be the Commish. Someone of extremely high integrity that is well known for honesty. It’d be a great step in the right direction.
Anyone that thinks Indiana has the blue print to college football national championships is out of their mind. It was the perfect college football storm and great coaching. It requires hitting on every transfer portal and praying no one gets hurts and the qb fumbling the ball and it bouncing right back in his hands. A lot of teams are great when their qb is the number one draft pick too. It requires both your rbs slipping thru tackles and knifing thru tackles for 1-3 extra yards everytime. Over 3 carries that falling forward 2 yards equals 4-6 extra yards. That requires getting your guys to compete for every inch on every play. It requires complete buy in. GA national championship teams if you didn’t run under a 1.58 in your first ten yards you were not getting a tackle. They had that talent with full buy in. Every play full speed and competing until the whistle not guys jogging to a guy tackling another guy. Not a guy looking back bc he just missed a block. It’s complete buy in. Mostly Injury free. Lots of Luck. Competing every rep. Competing until the whistle. That’s the blue print. Teams are gonna win with the transfer portal and with homegrown talent (highschool recruits). Notre Dame is gonna be absolutely loaded next year and well rested when the playoffs come around. NotreDame winning it all might be worse then the Big10 winning it all. Georgia has the team to win it all next year too. Can’t hear anyone talk about how strong the SEC is until we start proving it again.
Gotta disagree, regarding your assessment of SEC strength. Sort of. Lol
IF.....your Conference has 10 out of 16 teams that can compete at the highest level, like the SEC this season....instead of 4 teams, like the BIG10. You're bound to be more "beat up" and "hamstrung" at the end of the season.
That comparison between the 2 Conferences has been universally acknowledged...imo. Save for a few BIG10 Homer's on the Sports Gumflapping circuit. Lol
That's why....I don't think this 12 team "free" for all, reflects the Season at all. It's more like a mini-season with the most healthy teams having just a little more juice to give, in the end.
I think WE SHOULD GO BACK TO A 4 TEAM PLAYOFF! End of story. Bottom line. Miami had no business in the Championship game.
Indiana is the only team I would acknowledge as being "a Champion" over the last 2 years. Just sayin'
Go get em Big Red....get hungry! Go to work on next season. You have everything you need to succeed.
Allow me to repeat myself....the older I get, the more I find, I'm doing that, anyway. So here goes...
Only 12% [1 of 8], of the Teams receiving a 1st Round Bye, have moved on to the Semi-Finals & Championship Game. And, that was IU.
That has to be more than a coincidence. Something is wrong in Denmark, when you see numbers like that.
The QUESTION is....what are the AD's and CFP doing to address it?
ANSWER....Nothing! They're gonna leave it alone, because it achieved the desired result.......
The BIG10 finally has a few Champions and elite athletes are scattered to the winds. Yet, it's the SEC that plays the best and most physical brand of football.
Either, the SEC has to change how they approach the game....or, we have to go back to a 4 Team Playoff.
That may run Kirby Smart off....along with any other coach that got into "coaching", because they loved to develop players and human beings. It ran Saban off....just sayin'.. The writing is on the wall.
IMO....Kirby Smart would make a helluva Commissioner. Lol
@BigDawg61 @HellHound I see merit in Both you feller’s takes. And it’s very possible for Both of you to be right at the same time.
BigDawg61 is right that by the end of regular season SEC teams are beat to pieces. But a extremely lengthy Bye is toxic.
Hellhound is also right that it takes total buy in from the players, excellent coaching, and a bit of luck along the way.
SO the best thing that could happen for the SEC is for the Big 10 teams collectively to get much more stronger and talented across the board !! Let THEM beat each other to pieces and let’s see how well they do at playoff time !!
SEC teams have either season ending injuries or injuries with a very lengthy time missed to key players. Yes Big 10 teams have injuries but I bet across the board not as many to key players.
Big 10 has one or two challenges during the regular season, get past those and it’s smooth sailing. But even the weaker SEC teams are a challenge every Sat.
The lengthy Bye is toxic to Any team. So IN deserves credit ( the HC and staff) for keeping the players laser focused.
Now I will say that Mendoza and IN were a very, very formidable team. They did Earn the Ntl. Title not trying to undermine that.
What I Am saying is that if the Big 10 were as uniform in strength and talent playing each other as the SEC. You’d see far more injuries to their best players across the conference.
So with that in mind and with NIL and the TP it might happen anyway. The best thing for the SEC would be Big10 grown in strength and beat each other to pieces. Then when the SEC team plays the Big10 team they’d both be on more of an even keel. I know it sounds crazy but think about it.
So glad UGA got the back-to-back NCs just before all the NIL/transfer craziness took over.
