Stockton showed b minus level play, so I don't think motivation should be a problem. He's got to get to 2nd and 3rd reads. I know - that's not all on him - offensive line will be the key.

Injuries are always the problem, which is why you have to have two and sometimes three ready to go at any position, which requires more repetition.

While having a go to receiver is nice it is better to be able to spread the ball around to avoid double teams and becoming so predictable.

I’d rather have a go to receiver that draws extra attention and leave our other talented players with opportunities for Gunner to take advantage of. During the 21-23 run we had multiple guys who could beat the opponent. Brock Bowers still got his.

Question #6 - How will we overcome the terrible play calling that always seems to occur when the lights are brightest?

  • navydawgnavydawg Posts: 5,688 ✭✭✭✭✭ Graduate

If Gunner and the rest of the O improve just Some ( though certainly we hope much more than that). Then the Dawgs should advance at a bare minimum past game one of the playoffs. I’m talking at a minimum there.

I Believe in Gunner and I Believe in our O for that matter the whole team. I Know Dawgs fans were frustrated and saddened by last year’s playoffs. But if you really look at the season as a whole and take into account a first year as starter QB combined with allot of other firsts on both sides of the ball, injuries at the worse possible time etc. etc. Those are real and tangible Not excuses.

Knowing Gunner as we know him he’s probably been consumed with that playoff loss and has watched film until his eyes have bugged out !! Gunner is certainly not an arrogant guy. He readily admits his mistakes and quickly gives his teammates the credit and glory for the good things. That’s just one of the many reasons his teammates love him and will play their hearts out with and for him.

Dawgs have some very talented players. Just a matter of developing chemistry with each other and Yes improving on some areas. Yes it starts with Gunner on the O. But I Believe he’s up to the task. I Believe this 2026/2027 Dawgs will make us all proud !! Go Dawgs !!

I hope you are right on Gunner. My concern is that he has the mental part in spades but he has maxed out on physical ability. Not sure he can consistently push the ball down field on posts and crossing routes. And he has to take care of his head by not sacrificing his body by refusing to slide. I think the D takes a huge step forward. We have the potential to be better, but it really does rest on Gunners ability or not to make the throws he did not have the confidence for this year.

Gunner has similar problems that Jake Fromm had…an inability (seemingly) to utilize the middle of the field. I wonder if it’s being coached to not make a mistake or he just suffers from a lack of field vision.

Stetson never seemed to fear using that space. Neither did Carson. Stetson was able to minimize his mistakes and Carson in 2024 could not. Can Gunner start taking those smart chances when a pass catcher is running free in the middle of the field? I hope so bc the offense could really unlock if he starts doing that…

No sarcasm at all but I’m not sure if I follow you on Gunner being maxed out physically ? Are you saying arm strength ? If so I have to disagree. He seems to have plenty of arm strength. In my view it’s his timing and touch that he needs to work on on the deep passes.

If he gets good chemistry with his WRs that are best for those type passes. Then it’s a matter of timing and touch. He tends to under throw or over throw those passes last year. But speaking for me he surely has the arm strength.

He does need to put more trust in his O Line to make those passes. BUT in fairness to him the O Line needs to earn that trust. They need to do everything Legally possible to protect their QB !!

He knows what you and I know. He’s admitted his failures. And I’m confident he will bust his butt to correct those issues. This is NOT a bash Mike Bobo but he needs to give Gunner the best plays for success. I could be Very wrong and it sure wouldn’t be the first time. But I honestly believe we will see at a Bare Minimum at least Some improvement Team wide, I suspect and hope much more than Just some. Like you I’m looking forward to See what they have. Go Dawgs !!

Don’t know why you got down voted for telling the truth and in a very civil way. Yeah last year Gunner did seem to be fixated on not making mistakes.

Thats where Bobo and the other coaches need to step up and tell him Hey You THE MAN !! Go out there, Relax, and fling that ball like we’ve seen you do in practice !! Hey Son you practice against one of if not The best defenses in the SEC !! Just get out there and do your thing !!

Now departing from the Coaches Speech, one would think Gunner will have More confidence coming into this year. He just needs to relax and maybe pretend that a real game is practice. Both Kirby and Bobo have lauded his practice play.

So apparently he has what it takes just needs to unleash it !! Work on his timing and touch and Yes vision of the middle of the field and get those corrected and he could be a Heisman Winner this year !!

That is how I look at it too. It is his timing and touch on those longer balls. I mispoke saying it in terms of strength. I also think he lacks confidence on those throws due to play selection, lack of enough reps, what have you. Hopefully, he is working with the WR's and TE's to better gel, gain confidence, and make more of the long crossing routes, posts, etc.

it came from my number one hater who just auto DVs all my posts. He can’t converse like an adult so that’s his only avenue for dissent.

I’m guilty of probably starting some arguments at times though that certainly was Never my intent. I’m guilty of being a little To passionate about the team. But you are absolutely and totally right it’s Much better to debate like an adult. I’m gonna try hard to Remember that standard. After all in the end for us that are not employed by or financially connected to the UGA Dawgs. It’s a Game.

Who ”will catch Stockton’s passes.” Yep, catching ‘em is a key.
