looks promising. I do worry a bit about moving Fuentes up so quickly. I'd prefer he get a bit more seasoning in the minors first. All about protecting his confidence. I do recall though Glavine losing 18-19 games early in his career and having the confidence to go out there and deal enough to make the HOF.
Both Glavine and Smoltz had issues early on , it's a real testament to their mental toughness that they were able to work through that.
speaking of mental toughness, Spencer Strider is going to need it in spades with his most recent injury. Are the Braves jinxed or what? I wonder if there is something about the way they prepare their pitchers that leads to so many injuries.
Still do not see any streaming service including bravestv but almost all devices offering it as a purchase app. Selected games on Gray media stations.
I think I can fix Strider's injury problems with one word. Steaks.
is he vegan or something akin?
Yeah. At least he used to be, I didn’t verify before the post
Strider is a fitness freak and sometimes that doesn't work out well. He is almost too fit.
Either way I think he might have ruined his career. Guy had electric stuff but I dont think it's coming back.
Years ago Im pretty sure the Braves were looking at him as the next Craig Kimbrell. And he would have excelled in that role. Come in throwing bullets for 15 pitches or so and shut it down.
Instead he insisted he was going to be the next John Smoltz. Only one problem. He aint John Smoltz. His body has not held up to being a starter and throwing 100 pitches.
I dont believe the oblique injury either. Sounds like and injury they would just make up to buy some time until they figure out where this is going. Not trending in the right direction.
Okay, the roster ended up being the same as above except Osvaldo Bido, a starter/reliever (experiece at both the past three major league seasons) released by the Yankees, has been picked up by the Braves and will fill Spencer Strider's spot on roster as Strider was put on the 15 IL - oh the luck of the Braves!
Pitching staff now listed below:
Starters: Sale, Lopez, Holmes, Elder, J Suarez* & Fuentes*
Relievers: Iglesias, R Suarez, Lee, Kinley, Bummer, Payamps & Bido*
*2 of these will likely start games 5 and 6 against the Athletics with a 6 man rotation for at least the first time through in a 13 game stretch without any off days. Bido again has started 28 games over the last three MLB seasons, so he could be the 6th day starter to allow Fuentes to begin this season in the bullpen as the Braves have hinted about their desire to keep Fuentes in the bullpen for the time being.
I personally hope to see Suarez & Fuentes start these games, especially if the Braves start out well through the first four games.
Watch Braves Today podcast with Lindsey Crosby. He gives an excellent break-down of Strider's issues. He is fine with his career, just needs to be careful and not blow it like he did last year trying to come back too fast. It absolutely is frustrating not to have him two years in a row to start a season though.
I would love to see Fuentes start but I would be more than OK if they kept him in the pen for a minute. IMO it's massive that he keep his confidence level up. He's a diamond in the making.
Agree. Believe we would have to have full bullpen ready in case things go wrong quickly to avoid a confidence drain. I think he's ready this year. Felt he wasn't last year and was a huge mistake then. This is why I mentioned we would need the good start/performance in games 1-4 prior to the last two with the A's. Otherwise, go with Bido who has the experience.
Truly amazing though that Alex Anthopoulos has chosen to practically use "duct tape" to put together the Braves back end of their rotation, knowing full-well he needed a starter in his words as a top end guy that can help with playoffs. I'm fine with both Holmes & Elder in a rotation, but both would be a 5th starter in my mind. We have Sale perfect as a 1, Lopez 2 or 3, Holmes 5, Elder 5, Suarez (this is our 5???), Fuentes (future 1 or 2 if handled well this season), Bido (future 4 or 5 maybe???)
AA please wake up and DO SOMETHING!!! (think he's been sleep walking since 21 season?)
Great win! Huge power show!
Riley and Olson get off the schneid in the first game!
Gotta love it!
162-0 baby! Go Braves!
You cant win them all if you don't win the first one.
