Hey folks - as a member of the DawgNation community, please remember to abide by simple rules of civil engagement with other members:
- Please no inappropriate usernames (remember that there may be youngsters in the room)
- Personal attacks on other community members are unacceptable, practice the good manners your mama taught you when engaging with fellow Dawg fans
- Use common sense and respect personal differences in the community: sexual and other inappropriate language or imagery, political rants and belittling the opinions of others will get your posts deleted and result in warnings and/ or banning from the forum
- 3/17/19 UPDATE -- We've updated the permissions for our "Football" and "Commit to the G" recruiting message boards. We aim to be the best free board out there and that has not changed. We do now ask that all of you good people register as a member of our forum in order to see the sugar that is falling from our skies, so to speak.

NIL ended it. Once players can get paid, then there's no sense sitting the bench as a 5 star 4th string. Saban stacked 5 stars like cord wood, and they waited their turn. Now, just go to South Carolina and play. A booster will give you more money than you will earn in the first two years of the NFL. Now, Michigan and Ohio State can pay kids to enroll. Isn't that obvious to everyone?
i think not having to sit out a year for transferring did more to end that than NIL
Kasey, probably right, especially since there's like 10,000 kids in the portal at the open date.
It's a combination of all those things that KS mentioned. Kids are free to transfer and play immediately, and they can sell their services to the highest bidder. It's hard to build depth when a coach at another school offers a backup a starting position and more money. Another consequence of NIL is that parents can afford to travel to watch their kids play anywhere in the country. Before NIL, kids often wanted to play close to home so their parents and grandparents could come to games. States with the most high school talent naturally had an advantage in recruiting, but that playing field has been leveled or even tilted to the schools with the most money.
The reasons mentioned are correct and pretty obvious. However, I don't think there is any doubt that the SEC has a tougher regular season conference schedule than the B1G. You just cannot deny that. And I think the wear and tear of so many tough games takes a toll on the SEC teams a bit more than most of the B1G teams. However, the B1G has a LOT more cross country traveling and inevitable fatigue from all that. I'm not offering an excuse for why the B1G is dominating the playoffs and winning the Nattys now, but it's something else to consider.
Now we add a 9th SEC game. Life isn't going to get easier in the SEC.
