@BigDawg61...true, but this article was about specifically the WR room where the Buckeyes definitely lead the Dawgs. Sure, all us fans just want the Dawgs to Win, however they do it, but a balanced attack where the opposing defense has to respect the run AND the pass tbreat is a better model for winning these days. Especially considering the increasing parity across more top teams, and the pull to get the best QB you can get.

What have the Dawgs done lately though? Not much. Other than SEC Championships - which isn't the ultimate goal - we've burned out quickly. Gotta change the narrative.

I gotta disagree on the way these WR's are being perceived. Every HS receiver with 5 stars behind his name is being launched as the "second coming".

And....when they inevitably disapoint...the National Hype'sters move on to the next guy. The Media is looking for a standout guy, that will provide material for em in future articles and interviews.

Everytime I think about this....that loudmouth announcer in the OSU Games in '24 comes to mind. He used the phrase "Maserati Marv" no less than 15 times in one game. He was the only announcer to use the term....but, he was selling it hard.

The crap we're talking about, isn't reality. It's a perception created by a media desperate for relevancy. Lol.

Nobody will be worth a tinker ****....without hard work, character, commitment, courage & heart. Show me how to measure those things....and, I'll tell you who the next "Great" WR, QB, OL, DL, FS, SS, CB....etc.....will be.

The news media has been working overtime for decades creating this OSU Illusion.

Imo....It's all in how you market your brand and who ya know....that gets you the press....that opens the eyes of a young impressionable HS Football player, looking for a landing spot that will put a good ball player in the National spotlight.

For as long as I can remember....OSU has been one of those "Pet Teams" the media pushes on recruits....through HYPE...and nothing more.

Fyi....The Media Matrix is shattered. Step out into the light and experience Truth. Lol

Go Dawgs! With your badassed Tight Ends & Backs. They can do the same job a good receiver can do. Recognize!

and “Maserati Marv” went top 5 in the NFL draft. Jeremiah Smith will be next. These big time WRs think they can be that good too. Ohio State has shown they can do that for WRs. Georgia has not. Simple facts.

You can prefer one way of doing it, but the fact remains Ohio puts WRs in the first round, which is what counts the most with players.

True....Hutchinson was drafted top 5. However, that was based mostly on hype and expectations created by a WR-friendly offense on a National Contender. Any good receiver could've done what he did.

    Since then....

He finished his rookie season with 62 receptions for 885 yards and eight touchdowns.

Harrison's second season was marred by injuries throughout the year.

Imo....for a "First Rounder"....he's not exactly setting the world on fire. Any receiver worth his salt, could've done exactly the same thing, if not more.

He was inconsistent as hell, at OSU. Yet, garnered a Top #5 Pick.

But....Marv is just one guy. The list is a lot longer...if i cared to wander down that exhausting road. But...i don't Lol

The main thing....is, that UGA is Loaded.…and, I believe Kirby knows what he's doing. He sees through the Matrix. Lol....like Neo.

Lol....you can pick through the veggies and go straight to the meat at the bottom. Cause, that's all that really matters to Dawg Fans.

"The main thing....is, that UGA is Loaded.…and, I believe Kirby knows what he's doing. He sees through the Matrix. Lol....like Neo"

Let's just keep the Main Thing....the main thing. Lol

Lol....no need. Watch the ground game, this year. Let everybody else, salivate over our RB & TE Rooms.

In fact....why DON'T we hear more about the impact generated from the RB & TE Rooms? Cause it aint flashy...that's why.

A WR in today's game reminds me of a golfer. He can make as many mistakes as he wants as long as he has the Eagle or Birdie....or "the great catch" in a timely manner.

Nothing wrong with that.....I love a great receiver as much as the next man. But....it's not something you should rely on, if you're chasing Natty's....IMO

@BigDawg61…hmmm…we all know the stars are only as good as the guy wearing them. He's got to prove it on the field. And a lot of times, yes, it's more hype than fact.

However, OSU has always gotten the better passing QBs as compared to the Dawgs. They have a long history of top draft QBs that can complete those passes to those elite WRs. Again, that's another cog in the wheel that makes the Buckeyes a better match for great QBs and elite WRs. There is no denying that.

Julian Sayin' is elite. Gunner Stockton is not.

    Just sayin…

  • KaseyKasey Posts: 33,612 mod

i don’t think we know how elite Sayin is yet. But you are correct in that Ohio has better QBs. Some of that is probably better WR talent to make them look good.

Gunner is a finished product. Unless he’s going against a terrible defense he’s not likely to win us any games.

  • BigDawg61BigDawg61 Posts: 3,692 ✭✭✭✭✭ Graduate

Disagree.…If the situations were reversed...so would the narratives. If Stockton played for OSU and Sayin for UGA....Stockton would be "Elite"....and Sayin, "would not".

Sayin's Not All That....just sayin'. Lol

  • KaseyKasey Posts: 33,612 mod

yeah because Gunner would have the best player in college football catching passes. And sayin…wouldn’t. Just sayin’ lolol

  • BigDawg61BigDawg61 Posts: 3,692 ✭✭✭✭✭ Graduate

Exactly! But, what does that have to do with "Winning"? So what, if OSU's passing game is better. It doesn't equal wins at the Conference or National Championship level.

I would stick with Kirby's formula. Seems to work. Ground game dominance and defense....with backs and receivers that can block and run after the catch. Let's go!
