"ESPN’s David Hale ranked Stockton among the third tier of quarterbacks for the upcoming season. He’s a step below the likes of CJ Carr of Notre Dame…"

I'm curious on the basis for this one. Sayin I can see, but not Carr.

Stockton had more yards passing, a better completion percentage, the same number of TD, and fewer Int. Carr also only had 33 yards rushing with no TD, while Stockton added 462 yards on the ground with 10 rushing TDs. The only place that Carr performed better was in yards per attempt, but much of that has to do with the difference on offensive systems where UGA has a relatively large number of passes targeting receivers behind the line of scrimmage. I don't really think there's any reasonable argument to be made that puts Carr as a definitively better QB than Stockton.

And looking at the article, it's kind of laughable that Hale has Carr in the absolute top-tier of college QB's. Carr's production last year isn't even in the same neighborhood as the other three in that list: Trinidad Chambliss, Darian Mensah, or even Arch Manning. Heck, Hale himself even admits that Carr struggled in his four games against P4 opponents last year: 6TD vs 5 Int with his average yards per attempt dropping from over 10 to 6.4.

Honestly, I'd argue that Carr's production was noticeably worse that players Hale has in tier 2 like Maiava, Railola, and Dante Moore.

If anything, Carr should be in the same tier as Stockton.

Yes, Gunner needs to be more consistent. Of course, it’s one thing to be the QB when Todd Monken is calling the plays and quite another thing when Mike Bobo is calling the plays. For example, blaming Gunner for the Ole Miss loss is just plain wrong imo. Gunner looked very good at the start of that game as the Dawgs jumped out to a nice lead. Then Bobo, as he often does when we get a lead, went crazy conservative with the play calling for two full quarters. We got behind and the play calling got back to being more aggressive. Result: Gunner and the offense looked very good. It’s much more than just the QB.

Gunner did all he could within his limitations last year. He help keep the dawgs in every game. Play calling lost the Bama game and a weak defense lost the Ole Miss game. The defense knew they couldn’t let a receiver get behind them and what happened. I think Gunner did what he could. Easy for us to say this and that when sitting in the stands and not being chased by linebackers and linemen. Go dawgs, turn it around this year.

defense scored a TD in that ole Miss game. Bobo did the team no favors getting away from what was working offensively all season.
