Hey folks - as a member of the DawgNation community, please remember to abide by simple rules of civil engagement with other members:
- Please no inappropriate usernames (remember that there may be youngsters in the room)
- Personal attacks on other community members are unacceptable, practice the good manners your mama taught you when engaging with fellow Dawg fans
- Use common sense and respect personal differences in the community: sexual and other inappropriate language or imagery, political rants and belittling the opinions of others will get your posts deleted and result in warnings and/ or banning from the forum
- 3/17/19 UPDATE -- We've updated the permissions for our "Football" and "Commit to the G" recruiting message boards. We aim to be the best free board out there and that has not changed. We do now ask that all of you good people register as a member of our forum in order to see the sugar that is falling from our skies, so to speak.

that’s all well and good and don’t begrudge most opinions here. My main contention is if someone didn’t raise suspicions about coaching salaries but cry foul for players…they need to save the crocodile tears about “sanctity of the game”
@Kasey - Agree! 100%
You are correct in most of what you say. My only reservation is with your Patriot's analogy. You suggest, probably rightfully so, that UGA is following the NE model. The problem with your analogy is that , during the NE glory years, NE had Tom Brady at the most important position. (AND Brady took less than market value in salary because of his endorsements) That is a heck of an ace in the hole. IF you are counting on emulating that model W/O that kind of ace in the hole (or at least a very good QB) THEN what is your ceiling?
As for your Cowboy's analogy, the Boys have not been big spenders in FA since they signed Deion. They have chosen to reward their own players that do well for them first (kinda like UGA). Cowboys are handicapped by 2 things. 1) Jerry Jones. Now that Dolan has won a championship w/the Knicks, Jerry is officially the worst owner in pro sports. He has excelled at mismanagement only rivaled by the Falcons. 2) See #1. Dumping a LARGE part of the salary cap into another QB who can't win a big game. First Jerry overpaid for Romo who always came up small in the biggest moments and then doubling down on Dak who has shown the same traits.
The good news and the bad news is that UGA's HS recruiting predicament could change after this year. The bad news is that UGA will probably be losing #'s, 1, 4, 5, 9, 19, 0, and possibly 44 and 99 off the defense after this year. The good news is that losing that many 5*ish players will free up money in next year's budget to spend more on HS recruiting.
I don't disagree that money is probably better spent on proven players (returning players or TP) than on unproven HS players.
And there are MANY 5* players you could've used as examples of failures to live up to the hype. Marvin Jones Jr comes to mind. But you are probably off base regarding casting any aspersions at JT Daniels. He had a strong freshman year at USC starting 11 games and throwing for 2700 yards even though he reclassified to arrive at USC in what should have been his senior year of HS. Then had his knee folded back 90 degrees the wrong way in his 1st game the next year. Loss of mobility and many additional injuries followed seemingly preventing him from reaching his forecasted ("5*") potential.
You have to go back to Aaron Murray in '13 to find the last UGA QB, besides JTD, to throw for 400 yards in a game.
agreed. JT gets the short shrift from the fanbase for some reason. Probably because they loved living vicariously through Stetson. JT was a class act the whole time in Athens and when he was healthy played amazing in games.
Totally agree sir. I’m certain Kirby the finance major understands right now requires some creative hedging with a currently stacked roster. But the logic in this article is flawed and neglects empirical laws of math.
