ESPN calls out lack of talent in Georgia football wide receiver room
ESPN calls out lack of talent in Georgia football wide receiver room
It’s evident that one of the biggest questions with the 2026 Georgia team is the wide receiver room.
Comments
They are not wrong. I rewatched a lot of old games and was often struck by how much more WR talent we had then compared to now. Just for 2021, in addition to Ladd and Brock, we also had George Pickens, Jermaine Burton and AD Mitchell. Arian Smith, Kearis Jackson and Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint were more than solid. Dominick Blaylock didn’t even get much playing time. Little chance we’d be that good again anytime soon.
certainly hope Canion doesn’t fill the role of Colbie, we need him on the field for more than 12 games in two years. Less court time more field time would be nice. But let’s take a peak at the WR development elephant in the room, the floor is yours, James.
Kirby is a run first offense and let the defense win the game. We don't throw on first down, usually a run up the middle, and only pass when we have to on third down. Super elite receivers will not come here, but that is ok as long we continue to make the playoff each year.
ESPNATION
vs Ole Miss in the CFP bobo dialed up 11 first down pass plays vs 14 first down run plays, so not buying the run first illusion. Bobo mix was around 60-40 run vs pass on first down unless it was a totally overmatched opponent.
The analysis makes sense. However, only the performances during the season will either prove it to be accurate or not. Taylor and Wiley have potential. Prothro could be a pleasant surprise. Canion has good size. White-Helton is very quick. Humphreys has good speed and hands. Time will tell the story. IMO, we’re better than outsiders think, but we really won’t know until the games are played.
I think this headline is misleading. For starters ESPN did not say it didn't have talent and if you read the article they emphasize the inexperience.
Inexperienced. Yes, absolutely.
Talentless? Absolutely not. I think we are going to be pleasantly surprised by the speed and talent of our wide receivers.
Will they be All Americans? No, but underestimate them at your own peril. You leave Humphrey (4.39), Roldan (4.39), Taylor (4.38), or Prothro/Barbour in single coverage with no safety help and you will get burned. These guys are very talented, and very fast. This is going to look a lot like 2021 where we have a bunch of guys getting receptions no one nationally has heard of. By the end of the year, they will be apologizing to Bobo and Kirby again for doubting them.
Oklahoma will test us with loading the box and we are going to make them pay for it.
Did ya'll hear that? I hope it pi$$ed you off as much as it did me. Remember what they said every time you line up.
So tiresome with these ESPN said this or that. First, they're idiots. Second, we have our own fans downgrading the talent. "Won't have good wrs anytime soon".
Is this a troll or ignorance extraordinaire. We have 3 wrs who were in the overall top 100 players. We use TEs more than the wrs anyway. New talent is there.
Saying the wrs are lacking talent is click bait by DN. CR does this consistently. Post negative comments by ESPN so he can back his negativity and get us to read his articles.
And unfortunately we click it...me included. So we're guilty of looking for controversy and negativity to get charged up about. Narratives are created every year. So tired of it. They said the same crap when we first signed McConkey. Said it about Branch too. Now he disparges hom by saying it was AFTER the catch yardage. Guess we shouldnt count that. Bowers was a TE. Prothro and luckey are being ignored.
Congrats headline writers you succeeded.
But the actual frustration is being gullible enough to keep reading this drivel...including me.
It is clickbait. Connor Riley picks us to win the Nattie and then turns around and writes this headline which isn't even accurate? I like CR and Kaley Mansell but sometimes some stuff that is said makes me scratch my head. For example, yesterday or whenever they did the roundtable (this was genius by the way because you got like 2 weeks of pre-made articles out of this session and everyone goes on holiday), Kaylee says that this is "Georgia's last best chance to win a Nattie."
What in the world? I don't even know where to begin with that. This is a very young team we have some top notch players like Dollar, Spell, and a bunch of stud OL coming in and the season hasn't started and you are predicting we will get worse and worse from here on out? Do you KM actually believe Georgia is just going to abandon football the money maker of all money makers?
Georgia is going to spend like a drunken sailor to give Kirby his 3rd nattie if we don't do it this year. The cupboard is not bare and even if we didn't get a single other player in the next 2 years we will still be a playoff team.
Some crazy roundtable takes. Georgia with average wr play should be able to beat all but maybe 3 teams in the country. If we get better than that we are most likely in the national title game.
Prothro is a freak. Roldan is blazing fast. Talyn Taylor is both blazing fast and slippery. Humphrey's is highly underrated and will have a wonderful season. Luckie, Barbour, Elyiss, Reddell, Wiley, Dandridge, etc.
What in the world are these pundits talking about? No one. I repeat no one wants to play this version of the Georgia Bulldogs. This may be our 2nd best team under Kirby.
It's hard to attribute what statemnts to whom. Having said that most of this is a regurgitation of previously expressed opinions on need to improve WR/TE in order to remain at our success rate. If you have less talent then you simplify the olays same as you would for a novice QB.I will say that we did have a season where we couldn't seem to catch a cold and maybe that is where the transition to numerous screens started. We have eleven dozen QB's so there is no reason that all TE/WR can not get a healthy does of catching during practice. And of course the old trite saying about practice makes perfect.
We get exactly the WR room we deserve with this offensive coordinator. Why would any WR with aspirations of playing in the NFL come to Georgia?
Bobo calls plays how he’s instructed to call them - by his best friend and boss. Kirby is as involved in discussions on his headset when the O is on the field as when the D is on the field. But as Kirby did in Monken’s last 2 years, he is fine with that 60/40 mix going the other way (pass vs run) if the offense is clicking.
Verbal diarrhea lol. You are crazy if you think the talent on this team can match Pickens, Brock, Ladd, AD Mitchell, Jermaine Burton and the host of others on the 2021 team. Recruiting ranking don’t mean squat - Blaylock had higher ranking (#7) than every WR on this team but Talyn Taylor (#6) and he did what exactly?
got hurt
