why can’r UGA recruit the elite wide receivers? Isn’t Bono the OC? Who is responsible? Whoevver it is, fire him and hire the best WR coach in the nation.
Guys, if you look at the UGA WRs back in 2021 and '22, some of those guys hardly even had a star. They had to prove themselves, and they became better. McConkey was a 3-star and Taylor is now a 5-star. He hasn't been able to show his stuff yet. If he flops, then we have a problem. We've got multiple 5-stars in our TE room - why haven't we really used them???? Branch was a 5-star and he was overused as a short screen pass option where he gets most of his yards after the catch. Why couldn't we throw anything else to this 5-star other than wasting it on WR screens that failed close to half the time? Cannion was a 4-star but only ranked #67 WR coming out of HS. He wasn't considered elite, and although he had a decent career at GT, he didn't make it on any top WR rankings. Jermaine Burton was a 4-star than only had 901 yards of receiving over (2) seasons at Georgia due to injuries. But, after he transferred to Bama, he led the team in receiving yards for both seasons. In 2023, he caught 39 passes for 798 yards and 8 touchdowns, leading the SEC with a stellar 20.5 yards per catch average.
When is the last time you had a Georgia WR have a 20 per yard per catch average??? Has that ever happened??? Have we ever had a passing QB that could have completed those kind of passes?

We have to have a quarterback who can deliver the passes to give them a chance. Gunner isn’t a gunslinger, but I keep thinking back to the winning touchdown pass he threw in the Tennessee game. That reminds me that his arm talent is vastly underrated.

Let's talk about the WR's at about the season halfway point. See if ESPN's failures continue. Bet they're wrong. Again.
The Dawgs are gonna surprise some in the passing game, this year. Apparently. Lol...works for me.
After all of the interceptions Beck threw in ‘24, I bet Kirby pounded “no turnovers” into Gunner’s head every chance he got last season. But now it appears Smart and Bobo are very interested in Gunner making more explosives, taking shots downfield, particularly using play action.
Our WR room is relatively inexperienced, but that will change as the season progresses. Of course, it depends somewhat on how much Kirby & Company use the WR room, and the TE room as pass receivers. Sure handed receivers tend to get the ball more often and more consistently. Talent tends to rise to the occasion. Without the occasion, we don't really know who the most talented players are. The Dawgs have a WR room with hardly any track record when it comes to catching passes.
ESPN is mostly talking about pass catching. From Kirby's point of view, the wide receivers have another role, a crucial role, a hugely valuable role, which is downfield blocking. Does ESPN totally discount downfield blocking?
I'll say it again. The only thing I care about is winning the games. ESPN and many of our fans are primarily interested in the passing game. If we run only one running play, over and over, and win every game, I'll be in hog heaven, right next to Kirby.

Imo....the Dawgs will have the best offensive balance, they've had in years. They won't "have to" run....and, they won't "have to" pass. They can do it all, this year....and, ol' ESPN is about to get another "Kirby Clinic" on football. Lol....not many of their correspondents have had the opportunity to participate in program like Kirby's or Saban's.
Lol....TO: ESPN, CBS and all the res'....In the immortal words of Bumpy Johnson..."Either ya know...or ya don't".

First let me say Hey Yall !! Hope everyone is doing well and having a Great summer !! Me and mine are doing well.
I would t be to terribly concerned about the WR room IF Mike Bobo will use his TEs wisely. Dawgs haven’t been an elite aerial attack team since Brock & Ladd as the article states. And many outside the Dawgs program and Dawgs fans would question even that.
Dawgs are a balanced Offense or at least that’s their goal. If the RBs can be solid the pass attack Will be solid . Maybe not as exciting as some would like to see but I’ll trade exciting for W’s all day long. Plus I honestly believe the TEs we have IF Bobo uses them right will give Dawgs fans all the excitement they want in a very positive way !!
I’m not a coach. Not an expert. But I think I’d pull the TE label off of Prothro and just make him a full time WR. I think he’d Love that and would excel at it ! I hope to see Dwight Phillips become some what like James Cook catching passes and toss backs out of the backfield. If we can have just Three solid WRs and one other in reserve in case of injuries I think we can have a potent Offense.
If Gunner has improved just some I think he’ll be fine as in my opinion he was a pretty good QB last year. I’ve said this probably to many times and if so I apologize but I’m real excited about Prothro ! That young man has the “It” factor. He can excel as a TE but I think even more so as a WR.
Then think about we have E. Williams, Barbour, Luckie and don’t forget Reddell. The days are ticking off won’t be long and we’ll Know what we have ! Go Dawgs !!
There's virtually Zero Chance....that "Everybody on UGA's roster "didn't" improve", during the offseason. Including, but not limited to, Gunner Stockton and the rest of the quarterback room.
