ATHENS — Through almost no fault of his own, Gunner Stockton has become one of the more polarizing quarterbacks not just in the SEC but in the sport as a whole.

“He’s tough, so he can get some bull yards and take some big hits and all that stuff. I really like him, he’s a really good player. I don’t know if he’s an NFL specimen, but he’s a great college player.”
“He runs it better than you think, really smart, pretty accurate,” a different SEC defensive coordinator told Rittenberg. “I don’t think he’s got unbelievable arm talent, but pretty good.”
If GS is "one of the most polarizing QBs in college football", I don't really see it being emphasized in the two quotes from these two SEC DCs. Whether we agree or not, these appear to be responsible evaluations given objectively by two subject matter experts, and in no way intended to be polarizing, subjectively critical, or unfair. From what I've read and heard of his personality and leadership skills, he is a unifying leader and understands how to make those around him perform at a higher level. "I don't know if he's an NFL specimen", but he certainly has leadership skills that will serve him well in whatever he pursues!

Check our history, we have done pretty good with QB's that weren't great NFL talent and everybody will have some off-days, I would prefer that we give the 2nd and 3rd string a little more playing time so they can be ready on off or hurt days. Otherwise GS is the man. Work the play list and players to help him shine!
I want to see Gunner air the ball out more downfield. Even with SB flaws, he was still able to air the ball 50+ yards to a receiver and get those chunk plays when needed. I still haven't seen that from GS.
The only places that Gunner is polarizing is in the minds of talking heads that believe that the only thing that matters is the NFL capability of certain college team's quarterbacks. Gunner plays for the Dawgs. the Dawgs, when at their best under Kirby, play bullyball. That means running the ball at will against all opponents, and smothering the opponent's offense with amazing defense. Do that successfully in 2026 and they win it all.
Anonymous fan weighs in on Gunner Stockton: There’s a reason GS has been at his best in tight games in the 4th quarter, because Bobo HAD TO open up the playbook or lose. Option A is a good one,open it up and let the kid turn it loose.
Two up votes. I really miss the SB bombs, which also seemed to come at the most opportune times. They also seemed a little surprising (Monken?) when they happened.
This is his year to step it up. I remember when Bobo was a senior he lit it up. Gunner has to do the same if we are to win against the elite teams!
@railroadtrack1 I just went back and watched the highlights of the Texas game last year, and it was exactly what you have described in your comment. The Dawgs dominated with "Bully Ball" and there was nothing Manning could do but be visibly frustrated. Even more interesting is the fact that a whole lot of returning UGA players were contributing factors to this merciless beatdown! Gunner Stockton was very polarizing in that game by 25 points! 😂
Gunner may not be a top NFL-type QB, but neither was Stetson. We just need Gunner to carry the Dawgs to the National Championship, and this year's team has the best and most experienced group we've had in several years. With a very manageable schedule, let's not waste this opportunity. Focus, execute, and deliver!!
Gunner must be able to get the ball downfield with accuracy. If those safeties feel the pressure to help the corners on the long ball, then the run game will open up. Stetson Bennett had the best deep touch of any QB we've ever had. We are missing that. By season's end, safeties were playing up and his completions went down. Hard to throw in a crowded field. Wide receivers must win the contested catch. Protho is very important.
Would it be nice to have GS as the most talented elite arm in the SEC? Sure. But as long as he can deliver in the crunch , I'll take that over the other! Just win baby!
I see a lot of play action/RPO this year.
I thought he played really well in the SEC title game. He didn’t have to drive the length of the field for most of the 28 points, but he made the most of the scoring opportunities Georgia had.

Fyi....So was Rothlesburger, Farve, Unitas, Brady....just to name a few guys that weren't known for their wheels....but, knew how and when to use em.
Just sayin'....every NFL Offensive Engine, doesn't run on high octane. Some use the old reliable diesel engine. Stop it if ya can. Lol. Stockton can run virtually any offense in the League, right now.
He's ready and these "anonymous" characters....I mean cowards are willing to stand behind a screen and throw darts. Wonder what Kirby would like to say in return. Or Bobo?....what does he think about their Defense? If given the opportunity to retort.
