Georgia wants a room full of ‘Jokers’ at tight end position
Georgia wants tight ends who can block, pass catch and pass protect equally well, but Todd Hartley knows some Bulldogs in his room are better at some things than others.
Comments
“The options they can provide your offense are limitless”
Yes indeed, our TEs can certainly provide limitless options, it’s the TE play calls that have been limiting the options. Open it up CMB! Our joker room is stacked.
Gunner has to see it and hit it. If he does that it should fully unlock the offense. Only so much Bobo can do.
We got spoiled by watching Brock Bowers for three years. He is probably the most gifted tight end to ever play the position. The current crop of tight ends collectively have the talent to be a force to be reckoned with. I expect good things from the tight end room for years to come.
Go Dawgs!!!!
"The tight ends who excel in all phases of the position — route-running, pass catching, run blocking and pass protection — are known as “Jokers” because of the flexibility they can provide in the offense."
Imagine the shock felt throughout the SEC as all of the DCs realize that UGA has 5 Jokers in the deck! Read em' and weep!
GO DAWGS!
We've always had really good Tight Ends. Yes, Bowers was the best but it didn't start with him:
Darnell Washington, Benjamin Watson, Larry Brown, Odell Thurman, Troy Sadowski, Leonard Pope, Shannon Mitchell, Randy McMichael, Orson Charles, John Fitzpatrick, Oscar Delp, Richard Appleby, Clarence Kay
The list goes on and on. It isn't an "anomaly" as this article states. It is who we are.
87dawg, post of the day. Exactly. Hartley is another very good TE coach in a historical line of excellent TE coaches at UGA, nothing more, nothing less. Great tight end development is a tradition passed on since Vince Dooley took over the program. It is paramount to establishing a great run team, even more so now that the spread and no Fullback sets have taken over as the current offensive rave.
Excellent list of Dawgs TEs !! Thank You !! Please allow me to add another, Charlie Woerner !!
