ESPN drops Georgia football to ‘Tier 2,’ shares so-called trust issues
Georgia football remains among the best in the nation, but ESPN points out the Bulldogs aren't as dominant as they once were.
Comments
Oh a negative opinion from ESPN on Georgia. Go figure. They hate UGA.
Nothing new here. We all know about the lack of a decent pass rush and a vertical, downfield passing threat & explosive plays involving the passing game. More team parity + lack of experienced, talented depth = Dawgs return to earth and the new reality of college football. The Bama dominance and even Georgia early 2020s dominance probably won't be repeated again.
BUT, dominance can certainly occur over a season and into the post-season as was proven by Indiana especially and also Ohio State. The key for the Dawgs, or any elite contender, is to limit key injuries and be playing your best football going into the post-season. The Dawgs have been limping into the post season the last few years and definitely not playing their best football. Our inconsistent play game-after-game and costly injuries continued to effect the Dawg's performance.
Can Kirby somehow change the Dawg's performance going forward?
Another thrilling and informative expose by that world renown athletic prognosticating institution…ESPN…..I suppose their judgement based on previous years production is about as legitimate as their usual prognostications based on race.
"ESPN put four teams in its “Tier 1, Safest Bets” category: Indiana, Miami (Fla.), Notre Dame and Ohio State, while Oregon and Texas were grouped with Georgia in the “Tie 2, Trust Issues” category."
I understand that Indiana is the reigning NC, but they also have a very low return in production from the 2025 season, including the loss of the Heisman Trophy winning QB (106th out of 138 according to some robot that lives in a Data Center). I'm not bothered by UGA being excluded or included in any preseason list, but it is fascinating to see who does/doesn't make the list and the logic behind it.
GO DAWGS!
Gotta love the bulletin board material. In 2021, Georgia was pre-season ranked #5, and won it all. That's about where we are now. I like our team and chances. Go Dawgs!
This is GREAT news! Motivation is always a good thing. Thank you ESPN!
Have to agree with your logic here. I know I am getting roasted, but if you look at how many games that we pulled out of the fire last year, we for sure have a long way to go to win over elite play-off teams, so I agree with ESPN. I like our talent level for this year and we may be special. Gonna be a fun ride!!
Thank You ESPN…….for the bulletin board material. Dawgs play better when being dissed. Go Dawgs !
Why do they put ND on the top tier list ? Cause we just Gotta ! 🤪
"ESPN noted Georgia is 18-5 against power conference teams over the past two seasons"
5 losses in two years to P4 teams equals downgrade to tier 2. Not to mention 4 of the losses were versus OM and Bama, 3 on the road plus a playoff loss to ND. Throw it a blender, put the setting on B S and presto, out comes tier 2 downgrade. Comparatively speaking -
“Tier 1, Safest Bets category: Indiana, Miami (Fla.), Notre Dame and Ohio State"
Indiana 2 losses to P4 including last year's undefeated season so maybe an argument for tier 1 status
Miami SIX (6) losses to P4, tier 1 what??? Tier 3 at best. I guess only 6 losses coming out of the All Cupcake Conference is tier one, not in the SEC!
Ohio 4 losses to P4 and a natty, maybe.
ND 3 losses to P4 plus a loss to N. Illinois, no bias here. Soft scheduling equals tier 1, got it ESPN. You guys are pretty smart. Anyone in the SEC cannot be tier 1, too tough of a conference.
Great locker room bulletin board material. Thanks ESPN!
Is this the same ESPN poll that had Indiana (preseason) ranked #31 in the nation and #8 in the Big 10 for the 2025 season? Note: they also ranked Miami #8 in the nation so according to ESPN’s poll the #31 team faced #8 and #31 won it all 🤪
Sounds like ESPN is chocked full of credibility. Go Dawgs!!!
ESPN being ESPN and Mike Griffith tag teaming with Connor to denigrate or passive aggresively attack the DAWGS. It is a song as old as time, err, as long as they have both worked for Dawgnation and as long as ESPN has existed. Just smile and wave boys…they are not worthy….
I agree with ESPN. UGA doesn't have talent stacked up like 2023. Certainly doesn't have experience like 2023. Now we pin our hopes on incoming freshmen, which wasn't even a thought in 2023. That being said, no one does. Indiana won it with 3 stars and a great QB. I will say, those 3 stars had a TON of playing experience. Something to pay attention to.
Hey ESPN, to quote The Dude..."well, that's just your opinion man".
