Very true. High point rankings or awards drive a lot of buyers across a wide variety of spirits.
New juice
Was up in Leipers Fork TN a while back and tried the 8 year. Got some heat if you drink it neat and that was okay with me.
Bowman Bros is a pretty drink for $30-35.
That's classic. My son named his dog Swanson. Let us know how it drinks.
was amazing, I am going to look for another bottle because I drank 1/2 the first night and 1/4 the second night
bought a bottle of Welsh whiskey the other day. did not even know they made whiskey in Wales
it is just ok, would not buy it again. especially for $45+tax
Dunno about others on the board but this time of year I find myself putting the brown liquor away and shaking up drinks with lots of ice and lighter spirits (Gin, Blanco Tequila, Tito's) to cool it down. My better Bourbons and Rums are usually taken straight with an occasional cube. Mixing them would be a desecration but with the summer heat its just hard to go there. So here I was on a hot Florida afternoon thinking about how close we were to Game Day and it hit me. Why not revisit some of those old classic drinks that I remember from the 70s and 80s which were bourbon based. I've got a big bottle of Woodford that I save for company so I jumped on a few bartending sites and started with an old favorite, Whiskey Sour. Just a touch of maple syrup, lemon and bourbon and Wow what a great throwback drink. Didn't stop there as I used to enjoy an old drink called a Horse's Neck. Bourbon, ginger ale, which I used ginger beer in place of and Angostura Bitters. Yes, thank you. So good I made two. By this time my wife was curious as to why I was in such a good mood so I shared the love and by 10:00 was sound asleep.
So question for the Bourbon Board, we all know what great bourbon we'd like to be drinking, but what's your mixed drink option when that's not on the menu?
Same thing happened to me recently when a friend gave me a bottle of Angel Envy - Cask Strength.
Jim Beam suits me fine. Like Hershey's Chocolate, sometimes inexpensive things are as good or better than more expensive options.
Hershey's sucks. So does Beam. I hate the Beam funk. Heaven Hill products too. The yeast they use leaves a terrible taste. But glad you like it; always nice when like something cheap and readily available
Manhattan for me.
Vodkà and ginger ale (John Prine special), Palomas and if I want bourbon, a Kentucky mule with spicy ginger beer.
Mad respect for you brother, but Hershey's does not **** @tfk_fanboy - with this you are oh so very wrong. On the other hand I can agree that Beam does ****, but then again, I don't really drink whiskey or bourbon (just beer and wine) so really have no business in this thread in the first place 😄 - I did have a really nice time at the Kentucky Derby once several years ago though drinking mint juleps
