if you enjoy quality, low priced bourbon, look for Ancient Ancient Age 10 Star or Very Old Barton
With KY coming to town I had to bump this old thread and beg the question, who's breaking out some Kentucky Creek Water?
I've been on the short wagon for the past week so I'm going lite with an extra large cube and three or more fingers of what's left of a bottle of Blanton's single.
The 2022 season is almost here!!!
GO DAWGS!!!
Excitement and adult beverages!!!
GO DAWGS!!!!
So I recently discovered this Weller bourbon. And holy smokes I've been introduced to a whole new world. Problem is I can't ever find it. I did find some reasonable alternatives.
E. H. Taylor small batch. This one was slightly pricer than what I'm comfortable with. It was ~ $90. But it was quite good.
Eagle Rare. This one is fantastic. Costs ~ $45. I noticed it's bottled by the Buffalo Trace distillery. I'm thinking this is what I should look for when looking for these good sipping bourbons. The kind you DON'T mix with Sprite or gingerale.
Quick quality bourbon story. Was sipping on some of that EH Taylor and a lil water with some friends the other night. We ran out of the EH, but he had a bottle of Makers Mark. I always thought MM was decent bourbon. So tried a glass of that and water, just like the EH... and just wanted to dump it down the drain. The good stuff really does make a difference.
Makers makes most top daily drinker lists, actually. Try the 46 next time. 😉
I have a whole new appreciation for this thread now that I recognize some of the brands being discussed. Lot's of old forgotten posters in this too.
I have been told (by a Philadelphia investment banker colleague) that I have a pedestrian bourbon palate. I have tried all the sophisticated brands, but, for my tastes, Maker’s Mark is the best—neat, rocks, with water, or with a splash of “Co-co-la”, it is always my adult beverage of choice! 🤣😇
I'm no expert by any means. But next time you have a chance, try one of these better bourbons in this thread in ice and water to taste. Then try a Makers. I think you'll be able to tell the difference. I most certainly could.
5:00 needs to hurry up. I'm ready to pour a fat shot or two of Blanton's SR to toast our newest commit.
I basically got introduced to it blindly. A buddy one night asked if I wanted some bourbon. I said sure and just poured a small amount in a glass. Didn't have any mixers so I just went with ice and water and said beggars can't be choosers. First sip of it grabbed my attention immediately and I said "woh, that's really good". It was Wellers. I've been going down the bourbon rabbit hole ever since.
I have drank bourbons from all over the spectrum. You don't have to buy those in the rarified price points to have excellent pours, and the Whisky Bible ratings back me up. I recently found an inexpensive pour from Elijah Craig that many of you will love: Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel. Like those from the Buffalo Trace distillery, it is hard to find a poor EC. Toasted Barrel has become my favorite EC.
I wil drink with you any day, brother, as I also have a "pedestrian" palate. You bring the Maker's and I'll bring the Knob Creek. 🥃
Four Roses
Small Batch if you can find it.
