National Clam Chowder Day

Red or White? I tend towards white, even though it's more associated with the Patriots.
It's also National Chocolate Covered Nut Day. Ah, health food!!

Not using the paper clip thingy today don. White for me. Dont think I've ever red clam chowder
White. And hopefully made by someone who calls it chahdah instead of chowder.
Not familiar with red clam chowder but I love the white. That is one thing that they do very well up in New England. Where do you get red clam chowder?
It's called Manhattan Red clam Chowder. Does't hold a candle to the original White.
For the non-cognoscenti:
White: New England CC (milk/cream base; potatoes, onions)
Red: Manhattan CC (tomatoe base; peppers, celery, onions)
I prefer Manhattan. If NE CC isn't overloaded with potatoes, and is not too thick, I can be a big fan.
As to National Chocolate Covered Nut Day, both chocolate (if high cacao content) and nuts ARE health foods.
FPG - my point exactly on the health food side. Something that's good for a fella and tastes great too.
Campbells New England Clam Chowder should be considered fine dining IMO.
I had some excellent Clam Chowder at Seabear in Athens this past weekend. Great restaurant, cool music, fantastic waitress and good conversations with one of the owner's. I'll be back for sure!
The best NE CC ever had was on the eastern shore of Maryland, (Chestertown?). They would make it in small batches through dinner time The broth just covered the back of a spoon and the clams were tender, not tough. Spoiled me for anything else.
Nothing that comes out of a can and is meant to be served on it's own should considered fine dining. My guess is you've never been to a 3* Michelin restaurant.
Poo poo away food snobs, Campbells NE Clam Chowder is very good. I add a bit of fresh heavy cream and top it with sharp shredded cheddar...yummy good. Add a grilled cheese on wheat samich and beverage of choice.
who did Michelin ever play for? He's probably too tall for a 5* chef.
Wouldn't Michelin's be a little tough for clam chowder?
I'm pretty sure Campbells puts chopped up Michelin's in their Clam Chowder.
You know who has a pretty good (New England) clam chowder? Outback Steakhouse. I’m not saying it’s the best thing ever, but I typically get it when I eat there.
I’m a fan of NE clam chowder. Also she crab soup. Had some of that the other day.
Yum.
