“The spectacular Texas hill country.”
@texdawg, you’ve said many thoughtful and truthful statements on this site, but IMO, there isn’t one truer than that. I LOVE the hill country!
And bluebonnet season is right around the corner
Most people who don't hunt or don't understand hunting have no idea how much money and time goes into game research & science, land & food management as well as land preservation. @texdawg hope you and your son have an awesome day sharing nature together.
Man that's a beautiful photo.
If I were an artist (like @JoelSidneyKelly) I'd find a way to blow it up to about 50 square feet, frame it, and hang it on a wall.
I bet it's something to see with your own eyes. Thanks for taking it and sharing it.
This has turned out to be an all-time great thread.
Looks like you guy had some luck. I wont even shoot a wild bird around here anymore, because they are getting so rare. I have always wanted to hunt in Texas, got to do that one day. Thanks for the pic.
Do it before they are all gone. Bobs are getting harder to find. Still a couple of strong holds.
Blue quail are still plentiful further out west. But aren't as fun to hunt
The dogs are worn out. Buzz, Bella, Buck and Minnie did a great job. Time to go home and watch the superbowl.
👆well said and @Texas_Dawg would you be so kind and consider letting us TX Hill Country lovers know when the blue bonnets are ready ... I want to sch a hill country extended weekend trip
April
Try marriage counseling. It hasn’t really worked for us on topics like me not correctly putting utensils away or her issue of putting peanut butter and jelly all on one side of the sandwich, but give it a shot
Yo @texdawg bro let’s see some pics of the cooked quail. Drooling over here
From the first of April to the end of April. Mid April is the safest bet.
It's like north Georgia leaves in the fall......a little different each year.
I've hunted plenty of Bobwhites, but my favorite are California Qual or Gambel's.
Worth noting that, while there are bluebonnets (and indian paintbrushes) in the hill country, the more spectacular displays are somewhat east of there. Soil in a lot of the hill country is too sandy/rocky.
True....especially in big cow pastures where cows help spread them.
Supposedly Burnet is the epicenter of bluebonnets
