Hey folks - as a member of the DawgNation community, please remember to abide by simple rules of civil engagement with other members:
- Please no inappropriate usernames (remember that there may be youngsters in the room)
- Personal attacks on other community members are unacceptable, practice the good manners your mama taught you when engaging with fellow Dawg fans
- Use common sense and respect personal differences in the community: sexual and other inappropriate language or imagery, political rants and belittling the opinions of others will get your posts deleted and result in warnings and/ or banning from the forum
- 3/17/19 UPDATE -- We've updated the permissions for our "Football" and "Commit to the G" recruiting message boards. We aim to be the best free board out there and that has not changed. We do now ask that all of you good people register as a member of our forum in order to see the sugar that is falling from our skies, so to speak.

Do it before they are all gone. Bobs are getting harder to find. Still a couple of strong holds.
Blue quail are still plentiful further out west. But aren't as fun to hunt
The dogs are worn out. Buzz, Bella, Buck and Minnie did a great job. Time to go home and watch the superbowl.
👆well said and @Texas_Dawg would you be so kind and consider letting us TX Hill Country lovers know when the blue bonnets are ready ... I want to sch a hill country extended weekend trip
April
Try marriage counseling. It hasn’t really worked for us on topics like me not correctly putting utensils away or her issue of putting peanut butter and jelly all on one side of the sandwich, but give it a shot
Yo @texdawg bro let’s see some pics of the cooked quail. Drooling over here
From the first of April to the end of April. Mid April is the safest bet.
It's like north Georgia leaves in the fall......a little different each year.
I've hunted plenty of Bobwhites, but my favorite are California Qual or Gambel's.
Worth noting that, while there are bluebonnets (and indian paintbrushes) in the hill country, the more spectacular displays are somewhat east of there. Soil in a lot of the hill country is too sandy/rocky.
True....especially in big cow pastures where cows help spread them.
Supposedly Burnet is the epicenter of bluebonnets
Shooting a 6.5 and hitting a target 800 yds away.
The boys are nailing it every time. I missed all 5 times.
I'm too old for 800 yds.
Hell I was NEVER the right age for 800 yds....then I hunt in Georgia and a looooong shot for me is 100 yards. Thanks for sharing this thread its been a real pleasure.
Seriously! And an Off Topic to boot!?
Reason 435,913 why DV shouldn't and off topic shouldn't be anonymous
More importantly - looks like a great day with your son...glad your're enjoying it!
This has been the best off season , off topic Sunday Manday thread ... Thanks Tex and everybody else that participated .... and thanks all that helped with the Bluebonnets info ....
Yep, same here. The first deer I ever got was a little more than 100 yards off. Remington 1100 12 ga. shotgun, barrel bead sight with a slug for a neck shot. Talking about lucky......
Yep. You'll never shoot at game that far.....if you wound it.....it's too hard to track.
Most all of our rifles are sighted in at 100 yds. Rarely ever have a shot over 150 yds.
We try our best to age our deer before we shoot them. It gets difficult to do the further away they are
If you do decide to go in April, I'd recommend flying to San Antonio. San Antonio is worth some time. Alamo.River Walk.Incredible Tex-Mex food. IMO best, most historic city in Texas. From there drive NW to Bandera, then north and east through the hill country. If you head toward Fredericksburg, you can go through the famous Luchenbach, Texas. I grew up in Texas but it's been awhile. @texdawg seems to have gotten around a good bit there. Sure he could be even more help than me.
I'm sad to say the full extent of my time in Texas has been in Houston, on business. You guys make me want to move out there for a year and take time to see the whole state. Preferably on foot, horseback, or a jeep/hunting rig.
I'll let you in on a not so closely guarded secret. Many (Most?) Texans don't really like to acknowledge that Houston is part of Texas. 😉 And in case the are any Houstonians on here---Hold your venom. I grew up outside of Houston so have every right to say that.😜
I spent part of every childhood summer in San Antonio, completely immersed in Mexican culture. My mother's family is from Guanajuato and she made sure I got a heavy dose of mariachis at weddings and piñatas at birthday parties. My grandparents lived in San Antonio and every summer my eight aunts would crowd 40+ cousins into la casa de mi abuela for 200 hours of all-you-can-eat homemade tortillas and tamales.
I would give a million dollars to relive the summer of 1980... and another million for the fall.
