@texdawg in the last gameday thread I posted Arky was going to be one of the better coached teams. Being from Missouri I remember Odom leading defenses and then beating UGA as well. The guy can coach... Then living (and working for a Baylor affiliated job) Ive heard stories aboit little Briles for a while besides seeing what he did on news weekly at Baylor before the whole incident. VERY GOOD STAFF...
Need a drink recommendation :-)
From you.....always
I remember that.
Man they beat the juggernaut that is Mississippi state by 7. Yup they’ve arrived for sure! I’m just happy we beat Auburn but y’all revel in arky winning a game lol
Two things can be true at the same time. Arky can still be a bad team and be better than you originally thought. That's a thing too. Nobody acting like Arky is a dark horse SEC team. But at the same time, they might not be the worst SEC team this year.
@texdawg Kirby agrees with you
"looks like Arkansas was better than I thought..."
7 word sentence...not that hard
They have a good game against Auburn and I’ll gladly say “Arkansas was better than I thought but we still should have beaten them by 50”
Whether y’all want to admit it style points matter, especially this year.
Style points will not matter for the team that wins the conference. It’s a ten game season, no cupcakes, with no spring ball. We could beat every team by one point and we would be the #2 seed at worst
So we win close in Tuscaloosa we win a close game with Florida. Florida only has one loss and bama gets revenge big in the SECC. Clemson undefeated OSU undefeated, no style points do you want to leave it up to the committee given that possibility? I don’t, I don’t want there to be any question UGA is one of the top 4 teams in the country.
You’re right if we beat every team no matter the score it doesn’t matter but the possibility of that is very small. That’s really hard to do in the SEC.
If the Dawgs win the conference, Georgia is in. Period.
If you win every game by 1 point and loss in the SEC Championship it depends on how bad the loss is. UF lost to UGA they wouldnt make it over them. Pac12 would be the battle vs UGA in that scenario.
I said “we’ll see.” Arky probably is better than thought. Regarding Miss State - maybe LSU’s defense (w/o Stingley) is just that bad - not sure what was learned by them playing Vandy. Maybe Miss State isn’t all they appeared to be. Your insinuation that we now have a sufficient sample size of games against known good competition to prove Arky is much better? Jury’s probably still out.
Not a fan of you calling out fellow Dawgs no matter what.
Can’t figure out how to link the first one about “It’s a Wonderful Arkansas.”
I'm not a fan of fellow Dawg fans having so much trouble just admitting maybe they might have jumped to conclusions about an opponent. It's a message board, i'm having fun. It's not that serious.
And if Arkansas winds up 4-6 or 5-5 you better believe i'm bumping this thread again.
I wonder how this thread might have gone if the OP had written "Arkansas is better than I believed they would be" or "Arkansas played better than I thought they would".
I agree that I probably should have put "may be" in the title because I keep forgetting that many people don't read the OP and just assume they know what the thread is about.
Simplified:
Georgia obviously didn't play well in the first half.
But Arky was so poorly coached the past 2 seasons.....no way they should have performed as poorly as they have the past two seasons.
21 SEC losses in a row.....with the amount of talent that they supposedly have is ridiculous.....
Never suggested that Arky would be good.....simply argued with their talent and new coaches.....especially coordinators.....that Arky would be better than what most/many people believed.
It's difficult to figure out why some seemed to read more into it than intended.
But I'll double down......Arky is definitely better than what most people believed. It's a simple statement that isn't intended to justify how Georgia played. If someone has a difficult time understanding that statement and reading more into it than was intended.....that's on them.
in sports and in life people don't want to admit they were wrong...or misguided. we are all guilty of acting on past expectations. people hyped up MSU's win over LSU? why...LSU lost a zillion starters and their DC. The result surprised me a little, but it shouldn't have been that shocking.
Arkansas has been a dumpster fire without guidance for the last two years. Chad Morris has shown he is not HC material. At least maybe not at the SEC level. Pitt Boss comes in, clearly knows what he doesn't know hires a future HC and a former HC to coordinate his offense and defense respectively. He brought in a grad transfer QB for all his faults has played a ton of SEC games. Franks isn't great, but he is better than whoever they had.
Arkansas may be better than they were last year. We struggled against them in the first half and might not have if we had gotten a full spring practice. Both things can be true. Nuance is still allowed.
To be so hardheaded about this just looks childish. "hey, maybe I was wrong." or "hey, maybe Arkansas is ok" or just keep your mouth shut and don't double down on your short-sightedness...
I said “we’ll see.” Still stand by it. Sorry if not “admitting I was wrong” is so troubling to you. Oh wait...no I’m not. Never mind.
