NATIONAL HOME BREW DAY
This certainly fits in nicely with yesterday's National Beverage Day.
NATIONAL HOMEBREW DAY
The first Saturday in May recognizes National Homebrew Day. Every year the American Homebrewers Association holds the Big Brew to celebrate the practice of homebrewing by bringing homebrewers together to make the same official recipes for side by side competition.
There are different breeds of homebrewers. Those who hold to time-honored traditions and those who push the edge of flavor and experimentation. Both express their personality with barley, hops, and yeast and a little something else.
Homebrewers dabble in a variety of styles. Where you enjoy lagers, ales, ciders, or a mead, there’s a category for you. Discover your favorite homebrew and join the competition!
And, whatever your personal flair – honey, and ginger or hoppy and dark – if you are a homebrewer, this celebration is for you.
HOW TO OBSERVE #NationalHomebrewDay
Enjoy the flavor of a homebrew. Or, brew up your favorite homebrew and celebrate with other homebrewers.
There were at least 16 possible choices for today's National Day. Way too mind boggling for me. I took the easy road on this one.

Just wow…..Cinco de Mayo, National Beverage day, National HomeBrew day all in a row?…..got to be National aspirin/hangover day tomorrow!
Thought about trying to home brew once. Read up on the process, time and expense to get started. So I went to the store and bought a 12 pack. Haven't revisited the thought again as of now.
I bought a kit during the worst of the pandemic. Sat gathering dust. When the wife and baby were out of town I tried to give it a shot. The jug leaked. Then their customer service I had to buy more junk to help it not leak.
Promptly took it down to the trash. I guess I’m not opening a brewery now
Two of my guy friends that were pre med stole some equipment from their Ochem lab and brewed in their closet in the dorm. I made some in ochem once too just for fun. It tasted pretty terrible.
Does it count as “homebrew” if you mix the tonic with the gin…….?
Background: Dad was from Oregon, Mom was from Massachusetts. I was Born in Louisiana (Barksdale AFB), raised in Georgia...and now living in Oregon since 2001. Played football in Macon...DAWG fan since I could walk...met Herschel before a game in Athens and got an autograpgh (hit-him-up when team was loading the bus to the stadium...thought I missed him but he was the last to board)
All that said...Football was invented in the South, but Microbrew was invented in the West:) Been brewing since I moved to OR...first couple guys I met here were homebrewers and they showed me the ropes. (For all you homebrewers, I'm hoping to get an all-grain setup done soon...but doing extract kits for now.) Here's a pic of my kegerator. (Currently hav an IPA and a Farmhouse Saison on tap)
Since I was raised in GA, DAWGS hav always been my #1. But cuz of Dad's OR roots, I pull for the Ducks in the PAC. Really hasn't been a problem to root for both, as they haven't played each other in my lifetime. But, that's about to change...Sep 3, 2022. Told my fam in GA...get me 2 Tix to the Benz and we'll make the flight...but no luck yet.
We were fortunate enough to fly home for the UK game this past year...just had a feeling about this team and wanted to see them in person:) Here's a pic...me and my wife as we exited Sanford...after a glorious DAWG victory: UK 13 30 UGA
Go DAWGS !!! National Champions 1942 1980 2021 !!!
