As the announcers pointed out during the game, we had WRs running open down the field and Gunner did not seem to notice. It is true, he does not seem to be seeing the whole field, much less going through his checks. It seemed he was too willing to check off to left or right, instead of hitting targets down the field. No doubt, the OL is still a work in progress. I seriously have doubts about the coaching of the OL players. They just don't seem to have a killer instinct in the trenches.

Ok, I just watched some of the Gunner interview clips that BA introduced in the post game show. My gosh. I don't want to be negative here, but wow! His comments gave me no hope that he can figure things out. He doesn't seem to be able to think outside the box, or to create something when things aren't going well. I hope I am absolutely wrong about him, because I have been very excited to see how the team looks this year. I just don't think our QB1 is going to have the intangibles to pull out tough wins. Again, I hope I am wrong, because if I am right, it is going to be a heartbreaker of a season. GO DAWGS!

So, how many points do you guys think Tennessee will hang on us? You guys seem to think it won't be competitive.

If Kirby were a General on the battlefield saying. “ Now I’ve got soldiers in front of you with rifles, they don’t have any ammo in those rifles but I want YOU to Trust them to defend you”. Conversely say I’ve got a Humvee with a Super Charged engine in it and a grenade launcher !! I wouldn’t be a total coward and run away and leave my fellow soldiers but I might trust my speed and the grenade launcher !! 😀

These QBs are coached over and over Don’t Take A Sack. A sack is almost as bad as an INT or a fumble. Gunner Stockton is No coward we saw that when he lowered his head and Tried to run over a LB.
I think Gunner’s fear is taking a sack.

He’s not scanning the field long enough. He either throws the ball to the lesser choice of targets ( while man is open down field) or he tucks the ball and runs with it. And I think allot of that is fear of being sacked. Not the physical hurt of a sack, but letting Coach and Team down. I wish KS and Bobo would say Gunner go out there and play football, do your very best, and have a good time, we trust you.
I think Gunner Stockton is the biggest critic of his play.

Your cause for concern is not unwarranted. He doesn’t have NFL physical skills and I’ve seen ZERO improvement on the mental aspect of his game. His longest pass from scrimmage was 19 yards! 🤨 Are you kidding me? Everything he throws is on the perimeter, nothing over the middle and his longest pass ball accuracy is terrible. He holds onto the ball way too long and has major vision issues. Our WRs are wide open down field and he either cannot see them or simply isn’t confident enough to make the long throw.

Offensively this is gonna be a LOOOONG season!

DazzleDawg…It’s not the points that Tennessee will hang on us that concerns me. It’s the points we will hang on them that’s my biggest concern! Go Dawgs

I don’t know. But our Defense has been very stout in both these first two games. Just like AP had the goal line stand vs our Dawgs we held them out of the end zone then came right back and drove the ball down the field 98 yds for a touchdown.

I was just listening to Brandon Adams post game show and I actually feel better. I’ve ( We’ve) seen several times where we struggled against these supposed to be inferior teams only to come back and decimate a much more worthy opponent. The Vols come to mind.

Brandon thinks that the playbook will be opened vs TN and he sees Gunner connecting more with Colbie Young and Noah Thomas ( I’m saying this part also Branch). I clearly Remember some of the very same comments that I have made ( stress on Me) and my fellow Dawgs fans about Gunner made about Stetson Bennett-He has a weak arm, He’s not accurate, He doesn’t read the field, He has poor decision making, and the Biggie We’ll Never Win A Ntl. Title with Stetson Bennett at QB.

Now All or Some of these things might be True about Gunner and Stay True. All I’m saying is if there were some way we could go back and look at archived you’d see Many of the same comments said about Stetson.

We might go to Knoxville and get the pants beat off of us. And Gunner Might be the biggest part of the reason why that happens. But something in my very ample gut tells me before I sell the farm and declare Gunner a Loser on two games that the Dawgs actually won, I might better wait and see and give him benefit of a doubt.
What if the Dawgs go into Knoxville and Crush the Vols and Gunner is instrumental in the Win. Then what ?
Like all Dawgs fans I’ve got Big Concerns and Some of Gunners play is one of them. O Line being my biggest. But maybe I better wait and see the game in Knoxville before I get desperate and make desperate proclamations. We’ll see…… Go Dawgs !!

If WE Don’t Believe In Our Dawgs Our Opponents Sure Won’t . I Believe !!

Maybe it’ll be a different Hero or Hero’s every week. Just WIN !!

Ok you guys seem to be so knowledgeable. How many points do we score in Knoxville? Your prediction please. It don't cost nothing.

  • navydawgnavydawg Posts: 4,349 ✭✭✭✭✭ Graduate

dazzle I hate to make the speculation. Some teams are more vulnerable to the pass where as others are more vulnerable to the run. Going by Just these two games played, I’m hoping TN is more vulnerable to the run. In both of these games we’ve ran the ball pretty decent. Gotta knock out fumbling the ball. And though he didn’t throw a TD this week Gunner actually threw for a little more than last week.

Maybe he can sprinkle in enough passes Even if their not deep passes to help the run game be successful.

This might be a year where we will have to lean really heavy on Defense. We believe the playbook hasn’t been cracked open much. So based on all these things it’s very hard to speculate whether we can get a W less alone the score. 😀 In a moment of grave disappointment today after the game I thought TN is gonna butcher us. And that Might happen. But I Remember in times past thinking and feeling the same way only for our Dawgs to butcher Them !! Let’s hope that’s the case !! Go Dawgs !!

DazzleDawg…We may and probably can hang 30 on them and I hope we do because we should leave Knoxville with a win if we do. I’m not a pessimist but for a team ranked where we are, the offense and offensive line in particular is not playing up to quality standards, especially today against a far less talented team. I know we have injuries but we have recruited well at that position. Sometimes we look good but inconsistency moving the ball is my biggest concern. Go Dawgs!

So true, Bennett had the same growing pains and mistakes early in his starts. Think some forget that. Just not sure how long the fanbase will be able to stomach this from the QB position.

I’m having some really serious dejavu today !! I’m seeing some of our SEC opponents totally shellacking cupcakes where our Dawgs struggled, especially in the first half against similar cupcakes, only to come back and beat these SEC opponents. I’m talking past history here. So could it be that history will repeat its self ? One can hope !! Go Dawgs !!

I can't help thinking of Nick Saban. I will never forget him pulling Galen Hurts in the championship game and inserting Tua Tagovailoa. Saban was set on winning, not worrying about hurting anyone's feelings. And he did win. I think Smart needs to give Ryan Puglisi more playing time when it matters. I think he just might have what it takes to ignite the offense. His playing time against Marshall was decisive. Laser passes and good runs. We shall see. No offense to Gunner Stockton, but it is about winning.
