Honestly though not many teams would have one that Saturday afternoon against Auburn the first time around. That was a buzz saw waiting to happen. It was just about as much of a trap game as you could get.

As with any new coach, there will be many who will have unrealistic expectations. My question is how much time do we give him to get his own people in and (hopefully) win? When we got CKS, I told everyone to give him 3 years before we can really judge him and see what his program looks like. What about basketball? Is three years enough? 2?

Let's see - We been playing basketball at UGA since 1891. That's 127 seasons of mostly bad to occasionally mediocre basketball. What's the rush all of a sudden. Lets ease up on our new coach a little bit.

Crean will make more than Tony Bennett, yes Virginia got owned, but they average 28 wins a season and came into the tourney #1 overall.
That doesn't mean we should demand that level of success, but he should be a big bump up from where we've been.
If I was calling the shots I would have done what Bama did to lure Saban, I would have QUIETLY made an obscene offer to a few of the true superstar coaches and see if one bit.

Tom Crean begins with a clean slate at Georgia. Georgia has had zero basketball tradition in the ways of winning, fan interest, or serious recruiting to keep up with other SEC schools of Georgia's size and budget. Thinking about this..... with the size of the school that Georgia is, AND with the ASSETS that are already in place?? Why not now in 2018? Why not this man in Tom Crean? I can see ONLY upside here in this case! Perhaps I do have on a pair of "rose colored glasses", but perhaps a man who is a fire breathing "blow-torch" of thoughts & ideas, and HE appears to be AS DRIVEN as any coach that I have ever seen... HE could be EXACTLY what UGA men's basketball needs at this moment in time. GO DAWGS!!!

Don't know how long we "SHOULD" give him, but I "EXPECT" to be in the Dance by Year 2.

Actually, I agree with @cfc136: give a coach the length of time of his first recruiting class to produce (3-4 years).

As a fan of an IU rival, I hope you get value out of that salary. I can't imagine that he wouldn't have been thrilled to have taken the Georgia job for much, much less. If he can land superior talent, he can probably win some in the SEC. Not a great coach, but he isn't terrible either. Just completely mediocre.

If you think Tom Crean is completely mediocre, I'd love to hear what you think of coach Fox. I'm pretty excited about the hire. We got a big name coach at a not so big name program. I'll take it.

Any building process where recruiting and developing is involved needs at least 3 full years. In year 2 his first class of recruits will be true freshmen.
That said, I won't be surprised if we're in it next season. We have some talent on roster.
