Beck had a strong(er) second half of the season. His lack of OL and weapons has been well documented. He struggled on air in the Elite 11, but was one of the best performers during actual 7 on 7 drills at the same competition. The raw materials are there, equal if not greater than Fromm in QB attributes. Most importantly, he’s just a gamer. Appears mentally strong, welcomes competition and just focuses on doing what he needs to do to help his team win; never once threw his teammates under the bus at Mandarin, when it would’ve been easier to do so. I questioned him earlier in his season, but I do believe we have something with him.
Mathis is likely going to be cleared for contact headed into spring ball. Word on the street is that he’s looked better, especially with his accuracy. We don’t know what we have in him but he’s a true DT problem. That’s also very exciting and has taken mental reps for a year.
Im comfortable in letting Beck or Mathis battle it out early, but if a grad transfer can be brought in, I’d be for that too.
SoFL didn’t Fromm have success in a spread offense based system in HS?
Yes. If you’re asking what I think you are, the SEC isn’t HS. Not sure why HS is consistently brought up after 3 years of college tape. He’s had 2 OCs, one who was ideally suited for his game. Maybe it’s time to stop searching for reasons why things are the way they are and start accepting that what we’ve seen over 3 years as the expectation going forward (assuming he returns).
This whole page is off topic and quite frustrating.
Relax on the off topic stuff, it’s not that big of a deal. The class is basically set. There’s nothing new happening until a week or so. We know who’s coming, we know who the remaining targets are.
Merry Christmas!
Fair point. Just didn’t know if he would thrive under a spread system better. That is all.
It is a spread system. We just weren’t that good this year.
Fromm got no on field coaching from coaches. Jesse Stone was huge for Fromm last year as GA and he went to Miami. With Enos leaving, I would love for Stone to come back to UGA.
It would be a positive of going after Enos.

Yeah I’m familiar, nice guy too. I’m not overly excited to just to get back to 2018 form either. I think fresh faces, hopefully new ideas is what we need.
I question Stone could push or challenge Coley enough in film although I’ll admit he is a nice guy.
Im looking for the guy to show us how he/they did it. Play design, scheme, development, game management. Etc. I’m not sure Stone brings that.
Carson Beck senior year
@SoFL_Dawg becks film looks good. Why did he seem to not shine so much at the Opening Finals ?
not trying to start something. Just honestly asking. He didn’t seem to wow there but I only saw a little bit of it.
Can’t answer that, he looked good 7 on 7 though.
Why UGA Struggled on Offense in 2019
WR Depth (# & quality @ top end)
Run Blocking consistency (yes they had al ot of compounding factors (loaded boxes/ stubborn play calling/ injuries)
Lack of QB run threat in the read option. (Allows unblocked defender to blow up play instantly). (QB Depth chart is main factor here, not Fromm's athleticism)
in 2020 we HAVE TO:
Slim down the OL
Have a QB that is able to make plays outside of the pocket.
increase the number of healthy competent WRs
I love what Sam Pittman did for UGA, but I can’t help but think that for the offense that we want to become, that we could benefit from an OL that was about 10 lbs lighter on average.
Beck is more elusive then I thought, very Joe Burrow esk. His OL is Swiss cheese so I’m sure he’d have more protection even if there is drop off AT and IW leaving.
future bright with him and all our WRs.
Nice Arc on the ball. Can get rid of ball quick and give receiver chance to go deep and run under ball
